Oh, very nice! (And more material for me to push on my son, who occasionally needs a break from baby-izing!)

That is one heck of a picture! Great costume, great look and great TARDIS! I wish I could pull off looking like The Doctor like that ;)
Isn't it how ironic that we have to think of solutions out of the box, in order to build our boxes a lot of the time?

Very nice costume. Must have taken some putting together.
Great idea to do a younger Hartnell Doctor.
I usually go the lazy route & just stick a massive scarf on!
TARDIS still looking as good as ever, also...

I finally found a decent striped vest online, but it's around $75, so I haven't pulled the trigger on that.  Instead this $3.50-ish solid color linen one from Goodwill has to serve.  I'd worn it a couple times and couldn't quite put my finger on what was strange about it when I realized it buttons on the wrong side--it's a girl's vest!  (And I need to lose about 15# to wear it for more than an hour or so.)  It's possible to find some fairly nice checked and plaid trousers at Goodwill too--although the plaid on these isn't as pronounced as Hartnell's.

What else?  I do have a bowtie that I've tried but can't quite pull it off--and I'm not doing the Edwardian long bow that is screen accurate.  I've vacillated on the wing collar instead of a conventional turndown one, but I've actually worn this out in public (well, without the sportcoat) and then the wing collar would be just a step too far.  The look I go for is something a bit eccentric, but not unbelievable to wear in public--no plaid patchwork frock coats for me, thank you.  As far as the coat, it is a nifty velvet sportcoat I got at Macy's for around $50 after the Christmas season.  Huge markdown for a very nice jacket.  It is a bit of a nod to Pertwee.  I've tried to come up with a more Hartnell coat, but you have the look, the fit, and the cost, and you get to pick two--at best.  I've gotten closeout tuxedo rental frock coats, but they fit more like overcoats.  Hartnell's coat is shorter than some Doctor coats, but it is still longer than today's jackets (and I won't even go into button patterns) so I settle for a coat that fits instead of a longer one.  I could do the route they took with Capaldi and get a lightweight "car coat."  I've even found one that looks nice, but at over $300, it should (and again, I can't quite justify it).

OK, back to the TARDIS, since this isn't a costuming site and I can feel the mods quietly grumbling as they read the above.  I'd just about resolved to go a darker blue--even if I keep the blue windows.  Even with some fiddling with the photo when I convert it to black and white, my box looks lighter than even the late 1940s boxes in the Met Box catalog.  But the past couple weeks, the light has been just about perfect for its current color.  I'd argue it is very close to the color of the refit Newbery in Peter Davison's publicity shots.

I tend to favor the blue windows for a number of reasons:  1) they are the most recognized outside the UK.  2) Apart from Capaldi (and the non-canon 1960s movies), every Doctor has had blue windows at some point. 3) white details wouldn't make my box screen accurate, as it has the blue POLICE BOX signs and accurate phone panel (instead of Hartnell's) and proper handle and lock placement.  I'm not changing those to make them less accurate to a police box so they can be more accurate to a TV prop.  4) Finally, I think in most situations the blue window trim just "reads" better than the white.  There can be a tendency to lose the detail of the panes when the light is making the glass reflect at close to the same shade as the trim.

All that said, there are no promises that I won't be doing her up in white trim with the SJA badge at some point.  I've got a can of white paint laying about and the SJA badge is on the wall in the garage right now...

Volpone, I think everything looks fantastic (the TARDIS and your outfit). The collar and the tie you've got are what Hartnell wore in the unaired Pilot, so you're right on the mark with that. As for the coat - you'd have to get one made since what he wore was more like a double-breasted Sack Coat than a Frock Coat, and you're not likely to find one of those anywhere on the market (unless someplace like Abbyshot starts making them).

I took great pains (and really made use of the PAUSE button on my DVR) while watching the first story as that one shows the best details on the coat. I sketched the look of the coat and a seamstress friend of mine used that for a pattern and made one for me. If I can find the photocopy of that sketch, I'll scan it in and send it to you if you like. Then you won't have to worry about the button pattern: I've done all that work for you. So shoot me a PM if you'd like it and I'll start digging through my stuff.

And in the holy crap/duh category, it just clunked me over the head, why the Brachaki prop had black & white for the POLICE BOX sign instead of the accurate light blue & white--when filmed with b&w TV cameras, there isn't enough contrast on the real sign to make it readable.  Now I've got to pop over to the police box thread and look at some photos to confir...yeah.  That thread is "Where's Waldo?" as it is.  90% of the black & white photos, you can barely box, let alone see the signs.  Still...

Since I did my Young First Doctor, I've toyed with the idea of alternate Second and Thirds (and I suppose since I've got a scarf my aunt made me as a teenager and a tweed jacket and a couple bowties, maybe 4th and 12th's.  I guess I could do 11 and maybe even 10 (although I don't have the appropriate leather jacket anymore).

A few weeks back I happened on some interesting Dockers with a houndstooth check/plaid pattern that I was wearing to work yesterday.  When the WiFi went down at the office I went home to work, and since the dress code was relaxed (and it is a bit chilly in my house in the fall) I went with a velvet blazer and bowtie.

I don't ordinarily like a bowtie without a waistcoat, but combined with my longer hair, I quite liked the look.  It is a little bit 1, 2, 3, and maybe some 12 thrown in for good measure.

Since I was too lazy to set up the tripod and the DSLR (I was supposed to be working after all), the full length is in the TARDIS bathroom.  And since this is a prop board, not a cosplay board (and it was a nice day out), I trotted outside to take a Doctor selfie that turned out quite well.  After looking at it I regretted not putting on the ring.  But not enough to monkey around with a second take.

(I hope you'll forgive my take on 2, Dino.  It isn't as accurate as yours, so I figure it is from a universe where the Brigadier is cleanshaven and has an eyepatch.)

There's nothing to forgive. I like the look you've created. It could be a great look for the next actor to play the Doctor (though I hope Peter Capaldi sticks around for a while; his cross between the 1st and 3rd Doctors is appealing).

And I do believe you're right on that one! ;D

By the way... those houndstooth Dockers you mentioned: where did you find them? I've been looking for a pair of trousers with that pattern forever, or so it seems, with no luck at all.

(Oh, and your Doctor numbering convention is confusing me a little... okay, a lot. The 9th Doctor wore the leather jacket, U-Boat captain style; the later 8th and War Doctors wore a leather peacoat style. The 11th wore the bow tie (but so did the 2nd and the 3rd); the 12th doesn't wear a tie at all, even with his collared shirt. And the 10th was "Matchstick Man" in the pinstripe suit with "sand shoes".)

Just because Moffat decided to throw a "War Doctor" into the mix (instead if just putting Paul McGann in aged make-up for the 50th Special) doesn't mean we have to change a numbering convention that's been established since 2005. It can get confusing, especially for any new members reading this. (Matt Smith's Doctor even said in "The Lodger" that he was "The Eleventh".)

Kohls, by pure accident. They're a very slim cut, but I like them. Seems like a softer, but heavier fabric.  Only thing, they have an exposed button at the top of the fly, so suspenders don't look as good as a belt.

Oh, and I kind of lose count, above 6. Throw in the War Doctor, Shalka, and Mr. Bean and it is understandable. ;)

Okay, it's official. You've just made my brain hurt! Especially once you mentioned Mr. Bean because after him it was Richard E. Grant (the Shalka Doctor - so, does he count twice? :P), Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant, and Joanna Lumley!

I don't have enough brain cells to even start tackling this sort of counting. :P :P :P :P :P

I found a fan-comic on deviant art once where someone had started a story that suggested all these 'other' Doctors were a result of the Time War constantly re-writing histories so that at some point all of these possible Doctors were overlapping as the time-lines twisted in and out of being.
A mixed-up non-conformist, trying to fit in.

A quick note:  My hair is shorter again (but it is getting longer).  I had a great plan for a 3 picture.  I've got the velvet blazer but no ruffled shirts.  Since it was around Halloween, I figured I'd pick up an adult vampire cape and a kid's vampire cape, cut armholes in the adult one and put the kid's one over top of that for a reasonably convincing Inverness.  I really like the plaid one he wears, but that is really a late addition.  The black satin cape is more prevalent (and easier to fake).  But amazingly I couldn't find ONE vampire cape--adult OR kid, so that plan fell through.

More importantly, while I lived TARDIS 1.0, I'll allow that she wasn't as photogenic as the refit.  So it saddened me that it hadn't snowed since the refit.  Until this week:

Oh, and I should mention that, while I've wanted a darker blue for some time, my current hue is growing on me as I watch late Pertwee/early Baker stories.  This shade of blue is very much in line with the classic early '70s episodes.  And the weathering looks quite good.  About half of it is paint technique and half is actual weathering.  It makes me feel a bit bad that I should probably paint her this spring, because then I lose all the wonderful weathering.

Still, I need to forestall rot as much as possible, so I need to get on some maintenance.
