I agree with expendable. I also hope to see more of this. It is very intriguing!

The Time Column, attempting a Tennant look with this one

Nice! I like how she's starting to look. The steep panel angles give her that "Scream of the Shalka"-esque look. And hopefully these will help you with the column details:

http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=1111.msg68591#msg68591. This one is the first column - pre-"Runaway Bride" according to the description - out of the console (and up for sale). Granted the old thing is cracked and a bit melted in places, probably from the 9th to 10th regeneration minisode when the super-lighting inside melted a lot of things on this console, but it does show how the tubes interlock, and how the sizes alternate as they go round the inside (the bottom photos shows that the best). It also shows how the "fins" were attached at the top and bottom of the column's casing.

And I know I've posted this somewhere on here before, but I can't find where (and I've been looking!), so here it is again:
ColumnInnards(below).jpg
I found this on one of those interactive web sites that were so prevalent back in the 2005-2009 timeframe. It shows the column's innards from the bottom end. (I could explain how you can tell it's the bottom, but it would take too long.) Again it shows the alternating sizes of the tubes (large, then small, then large, etc.) as they go round the perspex disc. (That white circle in the center - or off-center because of the angle - looks like the anchor point for the center cable that helped raise and lower the column's innards when the TARDIS was in flight.)

So I hope this helps you with the column's details.

Thank you Dino. I was working on some designs and working on how to fit the discs in the column, but the tubes are designed so that the top ones fit into the bottom ones. But thank you for the reference image none the less.

Here's another nice shot (publicity, I think) of the column, cropped to show the discs and the tubes:
Column-Tubes-Discs.jpg
You can actually see in this one that the tubes are designed so they alternate in size as they go round the discs: the upper one fits over the lower one, and next to that the upper one fits inside the lower one, and they repeat like that. It was always designed like that, yet for some reason many people think all of the tubes on the top are the same size (usually the narrower ones) and all of the tubes on the bottom are the larger ones, when on the prop they do alternate in size.

The image also shows nicely just how those tubes fit into the discs, and you can even see the central cable that runs through the column to make it move. And this image below really shows that wire, and more details on the discs:
Column(wire).jpg

Both also show the "fins" nicely, and give great details on that crackling on the collars (top image from Series 1, bottom from Series 2-4). I never really noticed just how asymmetrical that crackling was on the Series 2-4 crackled bits.

I hope these are helpful.

Dino, do you think my time rotors could be accurate enough to be used as reference? I might be able to dig up that model and post it online for reference purposes.

I'm only going to do it though, if there is any interest.

That is some great reference. I especially like what it shows off in the second image. Mostly in the wall area, you can see how it's not in any way consistant in the amount of translucency of the wall panels because of that material that was used to fill in the gaps.

Lot's of interesting, geeky, and informative details that can be found from those images.

sorry about the off topicness of that last little bit, but I couldn't help commenting on those images when their right in from of me :) I guess I'm ready to get back to work on mine (even though I have a few more projects that I'm working on right now and should finish before I continue on my interior)

Well, that's hard for me to judge since yours is a bit of a different model. Yours is much taller, and the inner tubes don't alternate sizes as they go around, and you haven't added those double discs on the upper and lower ends yet. So you can see just how hard it is for me to say whether or not yours would be good for reference (unless you've got other rotor renders hidden somewhere that I don't remember).

But the one from Project Jupiter is so unique it's almost its own model. I know you said that you wanted to go for the Tennant-type of column. I didn't know how accurate you wanted to go with that, so I was just trying to help you get as accurate as possible.

I'm certain there would be interest in your rotors especially if you've got more of them rendered, so by all means post them so we can all get a look at them.

Well, my rotors are to be based off the Tennant Time Column. Not an exact replica. Nevertheless, Dino's reference images have given me some great ideas for it. So I hope I don't alarm you if my Time Column does seem...different.

I know it's been ages since an update and I said I would dedicate myself to it, but to be honest, I lack the determination/creativity to continue doing the panels. So, I decided to give GIMP a try, and made this.

Time Column Edit.jpg

I was attempting a more glow coming outwards from the column, but this will have to do...

EDIT: Did another picture, from a different angle this time...

Don't give up, Tom! You've got a cheering squad out here backing you all the way! If you don't want to make loads of control knobs and levers and meters, etc. for each panel, try something totally different. The TARDIS is telepathic, and the 2013 console has a Telepathic Circuit Panel on it. We've seen it used a few times already. So why not make every panel a Telepathic Panel, but each one in a different color? The panels would glow, but they wouldn't have to be uniform in their glowiness (if that's even a word). Then the TARDIS could be controlled totally by telepathic means; you just stick your fingers into the panels in various places, and think to the TARDIS what you want her to do.

That round desk shelf on the console can stay just as it is, much akin to the 1996 TVM version.

What do you think?

I like the idea, but I'd much prefer to have a more messy, un-organized, controls everywhere console. I'm currently processing a render, should be done this evening.

- Tom

EDIT: Unfortunately, I am not able to do any renders until my GPU has been upgraded.

Update time! Because I felt like it, so why not?
