Here's a rare pic I've not seen before of the Tardis console being repaired at Shawcraft in the mid sixties...

shawcraft001.jpg

It was published in the new DWM special magazine, 'The Tardis'.
There's also an excellent feature on fellow TB member, Celation's console build. Worth a look!

I have to agree; I just received my "bookazine" and after a quick flip through it I went into sensory overload! Loads of info on TARDIS consoles in it. Celation's console's got a great spread in it. And when you get to the part about the 1996 Series Revival Pilot TV Movie (a.k.a. "TVM") console, there's also a good spread featuring our very own too_many_cars, Paul Salamoff (the TVM console's owner), and Bob Mitch and their efforts restoring the console. Well done to all of our members and friends that made it into that publication! Fantastic!

One thing about the Bookazine for those in the US: If you can't find it in a book store, get it from Amazon UK. The price printed on the back cover is "US $19.99". Getting it from Amazon UK (where I got mine) was just a little more than that due to shipping. Regular "Amazon" has sellers touting this as a rare publication and putting a $59.99 (plus shipping) price tag on it. (Can you say "Ripoff"?) Hunt the book stores, but even the extra shipping from Amazon UK was well worth it. (And I'll be reading through it while trying to relax later tonight when I'm at the med center - and if you're wondering about that one, check out my latest post in the http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=139.msg64503#msg64503 so you'll know there's no need to worry.)

I wasn't quite sure where to put this but here's a recently discovered picture, supposedly published in the new book Drama and Delight: the Life of Verity Lambert by Richard Marson.

Inclusion here is for simply to catch the computer banks at the back of the room.

Thanks for posting! For info, this was taken on the Tardis set for "Edge of Destruction" - this is the only time that the down-lighters were joined with a fascia board which hid the join between the sections immediately above and to either side of the scanner (the arrangement of the computer panels also confirms this)!
I'm definitely a "rivet counter"!

I hope this isn't too much off topic.

The image that davidnagel posted does allow us to identify the camera as an 'EMI 10678B 4 lens CPS Emitron' and not the Marconi camera depicted in 'An Adventure in Space and Time'.

I know this seems like esoteric information but might be of interest to anyone wishing to create a model of the TV studio. Identifying the focal length of the lenses would also be useful in matching screenshots to renders to confirm dimensions etc... The brochure says it was fitted with 3", 4", 8" and 12" lenses but there is no reason to assume that the BBC kept these cameras in that configuration.

And I was looking at the sextant that William Russell (Ian) is holding, and remembering a comment that the 2005 console designer said about having that console look like it was "cobbled together from bits the Doctor had collected during his travels". Well, there's the sextant that ties it all back to the First Doctor and his TARDIS! (Talk about things coming full circle.)

I'm sure this picture is elsewhere but I cannot be sure, but thought it was significant to see the walls here, both flat on the studio floor and the other raised on its wheels.

That half-roundel on the bottom, is it missing a backing?

Excellent image, David! There is another one with Jean Marsh (at one time married to Jon Pertwee) standing at the TARDIS console, but this image here hasn't been posted elsewhere. This is a new one and a nice view of the walls, it gives! (Even showing the missing half roundel backing as thecloisterbell pointed out. Maybe they ran wiring to the console from one of those when it wouldn't be in shot?)

Seems like a newly discovered photo :)

Looks like they hooking up some electronics up to it for the rotor. Interesting that the door is not open.

Am pretty certain this pic predates The Gunfighters.  The only shot of the control room in that story has a photo blow-up wall behind the console.  The walls in this photo look to be more late Season 2 or early Season 3 condition, with the gauze that replaced the original moulded roundel backings mostly intact.  Maybe the cowboy chappie was a guest from another programme entirely?*

*EDIT: Looking at the pic from the Sara Kingdom photo-shoot above, I wonder if he's one of the guys off the Hollywood set from Feast of Steven.  Most of the Sara publicity pics come from that episode, and the walls look to be in a very similar state and configuration here.

I think it also predates the Village People by at least 10 years... possibly more. ;) :D
