Before we begin with the photos, I would like to say a huge thanks to my dad, without whom I would never have completed this project. He has helped me to overcome some of the problems we faced when building the Old Girl, and without him you probably wouldn't be reading this post.

I started working on the console back in August last year, and since then I've spent quite a few weekends cutting, gluing and cursing to get all of the controls finished. The switches and other greeblies cost me around £20 altogether, and the hardboard for the panels came up to a total of £12. I originally thought about painting the Old Girl, but for now I'm pretty happy with the way she looks unpainted.

And now for a couple of beauty shots.

I'll try to get some new photos posted as soon as I can. Kind regards, The14thDr :D

Nice work 14th! Seeing it all come together I think you've hit on a very nice design and it all looks well made :) The large demat lever especially is rather nice as are the 70s-esque levers.
Still think this would look stunning in silver and black, and if you built some sort of removable Timerotor with some coloured LEDs in (perhaps linking large water bottles like someone else here did) I think you'd be looking at a remarkable classicesque console. But that's just me eh? What would be the point if we all has exactly the same reactions and I totally agree with the way you think it looks best as is :)
Well done!
Isn't it how ironic that we have to think of solutions out of the box, in order to build our boxes a lot of the time?

I second what superrichi1a said! (Color and the question of painting aside, I do think he has a great idea for the time rotor; depending on the size of the console's top, even one bottle with a string of color-changing Christmas tree LEDs stuffed inside it would make a great rotor! Especially if you managed to frost the bottle somehow: wax/parchment paper, frost spray paint, etc.) Fantastic job on that old girl! And I see you managed to fit the 2013 console Demat Lever on the panel after all.

Well done all round!

Thanks for all the kind words and ideas guys. I'm in the process of planning some minor updates to the console (including a couple of control replacements) as well as thinking about the construction of a time rotor.

In the meantime, here's a short test flight video with my console:

Nice vid, 14th! All you need now is a way of getting some looped sound added, even if it comes from a small older laptop hidden inside (or maybe a Tablet taking place of the oval screen - keeping the oval but replacing the static galaxy image with the Tablet). Then you can use that to start up the sounds while you work the other controls. I know others here have done similar things. Maybe some of them can provide assistance with that?

Haha great minds think alike, Dino. ;D
Even as we speak I'm in the process of designing a time rotor with an overhead monitor containing a tablet for sounds/animations, so check my build diary within the next week or so and I'll upload some sketches and designs.

This is really good work!
I can't wait to see it finished.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks Dino. Does anyone have any idea how I link my build diary at the top of the page?

Hey, 14th; what are you trying to link your Build Diary to? Or are you trying to link something to your Build Diary? (I know it sounds like the same thing, but the difference is which topic will have the link in it, and which topic will be the link.)

If you want to put a link to your Diary into your Gallery here, the easiest way is to go to the Build Diaries Board on the Home Page, then Console Build Diaries Child Board, and then look down the list until you find your Diary Topic. Click on the Title of your Diary and it will take you to Page 1 of your Diary.

Once you're there, select the URL from the browser's address bar at the top of your browser and click "Edit" from the menu bar, and then "Copy". Once you've done that, go to your Gallery and in your next post click "Edit" and then "Paste". The URL will show up in the Comments window as you're typing, but when you click the "Save Draft and Continue >>" button, when the page refreshes and gives you the preview of your post at the top the URL will show up as a link with your Build Diary's title. (It will still be the URL in the Comments window.)

Let me know if that makes sense, and I'll try to lend a hand if you need it.

Thanks Dino. Is that for linking the build diary to the top of the gallery, like this?

Sort of, but for yours, it would look like this: http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=5572.0.

Sorry Dino, I think I'm being a bit dense here, but which post do I link the URL into?

Well, of you want to link your Build Diary to this Console Gallery, then you should copy and paste the URL from the first page of your Diary into this thread as an Update. That way it won't collapse like the comments do after a while (and get hidden from view).

If you want to link this Console Gallery to your Build Diary, then copy and paste the URL from the first page of this thread into an Update in your Build Diary. (You could always do both, so they're kind of "interlinked"; then anyone seeing this gallery will have a link to your build diary, and anyone viewing your build diary will have a link to your finished product in this gallery.)

Does that make sense?
