Hello All,
Well our WHOlloween party finally arrived, so with a bit of hunting around for bargains, I had a chance to dress as a (very ropey) 3rd Doctor.  ::)

The shirt was a LEON of Troy ruffle shirt (won for just over £5 on ebay)
Vintage 70s Wine Velvet bow tie (£3 bargain auction on ebay)
Vintage 70s Wine/Burgundy jacket (the expensive bit as I struggled to find on in the right size, but found an online shop for £20 with delivery)
A Judges fancy dress wig cut down a bit with a pair of scissors (I really couldn't find a useful wig and this one was only £3)

3rd Doctor Sonic Screwdriver (2nd most expensive item - £10 in a local shop and the only accurate thing)

Trousers and shoes already in the wardrobe  ;)

Oh and a cracking pair of cuff links with a Jon Pertwee picture in, you might just about be able to see it in one of the pics.

Not the most accurate but it got the point across of WHO I was aiming to be.

And here's some pics to bore you and also a link to a facebook video we did on the night, apologies on the bad lighting but it was done after we'd all drunk our way through a large bowl of punch!

Great job, Balders! (How did you manage to get so lucky with that shirt?!) I've been trying to replace my 3rd Doctor shirt - long outgrown - for a few years now, and all of the ones I come across that aren't ridiculously priced are all too small for me (and you've all seen photos of me; I'm not that big of a bloke!).

Ah well, I guess the search goes on for me. For you? PRICELESS!

Hey Dino.
I was worried I wouldn't find a shirt in time as they always seemed to come up in small sizes or like you said, silly money.
This one was listed as something like frilly shirt and wasn't in a vintage section, so it was fingers crossed to the end of the auction!  ;)

Thanks for the info, Balders. I'll have to try that keyword search: "frilly shirt" rather than "ruffled tuxedo shirt". And yes, I did wear one of those shirts to prom, and I believe also at my wedding, but I'll have to check the wedding album for that.

I was so much narrower back then - 5'10" at 125 pounds! ("That is proper skinny. ... It's like a special effect.") If I scanned one of those wedding photos and posted it everyone would be horrified. People would tell me if I stood sideways and stuck out my tongue I looked like a zipper (and if I didn't stick my tongue out it was like looking at a playing card edge-on), or if they removed my clothing and held me up against a bright light they could use me for internal anatomy training.

But since I've retired and can't move about like I used to, I've - as we say in the states - "porked out" some: lost an inch in height due to the back surgery, and settled the weight out at 165. So yeah... really outgrown my 3rd Doctor's shirt! :P
