Right, so...

Question: The white window panels on the Late Smith/Capaldi TARDIS, are they plain glass, or are they textured/pebbled glass?

I am seriously considering doing the white window glass instead of the pebbled, just to expedite my construction a little and am curious if they're plain or textured (I haven't been able to tell from pictures and/or the show).

They're textured:

It took some serious hunting, but I found a huge candid photo probably snapped between takes. Rather than post the entire thing (I mean it's really large) I cropped the photo to show the windows. Unfortunately that's as high up on the TARDIS the photo went, so I didn't crop anything off the top, but it does show the lower panes nicely, and they're definitely textured. To me they do look a bit on the pebbled side, but at least this answers the question on whether or not they were smooth (and they're not).

I'm not actually convinced it's pebble glass at all. I'm using a frosted acrylic that looks exactly the same as all the new series boxes. It's a really good texture, check my build. I got this cut to size from an online double glazing company.

I think you've nailed it, Paul! That texture on your acrylic is about as dead on as you can get! (To my stanky old wizzard(sic) eyes it still looks a bit pebbled, just with smaller pebbles - like large bits of sand. ;))

So for a Series 8 box's windows, using your textured acrylic, all one would need to do is place some white paper behind the panes. That would give them that white look, yet still let light pass through them. (And that's some really thick acrylic you've got there. What is it, 1/4th-inch?)

well Dino I'm on with my windows now so this is exactly that, white paper behind the frosted bit.

I do have off-cuts of this frosted acrylic, about 15mm x 100 mm, not big but enough to get an idea if anyone wants me to send them a sample.

That white paper really makes those textured panes "pop"! (If you haven't thought of it yet, you might want to PM therailwayman; he may want a sample of that texturing so he has something to go by when he's looking for his panes.)

That's a fantastic window you've got there. (Only seven more windows to go now? :))
