I found Segal's twitter and asked him about the windows, but his last tweet was in 2011, so I don't think I will get an answer.

Well, you never know until you try. (You'd certainly never get an answer if you never asked.) If he answers, hopefully he'll remember, or have prints that he can refer to to give an answer. If he doesn't - because it's been so long since his last tweet - then you're no worse off than you are now. Either way, tweeting the question can't hurt.

Exactly!

Hopefully we'll know something soon. I will keep trying to find info if this doesn't work out.

With the splurge of images of this prop in the lamp thread, its reminded me to share these images:

Does anybody know if the Hudolin Tardis Police Box was a flat packed prop and does it still exist today. Thankyou.

DoctorWho8

To my knowledge, producer Phil Segal kept the hero prop.  It's unknown if he still has the prop or not nowadays as he's moved house a couple of times.  As to whether it was collapsible or not, very possibly, though I have never seen photos of it in pieces.

Thank you bill. Where ever it is I hope it's still in good condition and I hope it's being looked after and maintained it's definitely one of my favourite tardis police box props from the show.

I never noticed this before... so, is it just me, or does that Center Divide (at least on this particular prop) look like it was made from a 2 x 4 or some such piece of timber? ???
HudolinTARDIS.jpg
It does look awfully thick.

Yes, and it has a heavy duty latch top and bottom (fuzzy but visible in that picture).  No idea why it was so thick, other than to make the latch and door lock easier to install...

I noticed those latch(es?) a while back. They look like the kind you find on some old doors, like to school auditoriums, where you flip the lever one way to retract the small bolt that protrudes through the top/bottom of the door, and flip the lever back to extend the bolt, there by locking or unlocking that other door. Those latches are light-weight versions of the "big honkin' bolts" we have on the inside of the door with the phone box attached to it.

I just never noticed the thickness of that center divider before, and wanted to make sure I wasn't going more insane than I already am!

Well, they do give a bit of a better look at the frosted panels they have behind the window panes. If you look closely you can see a small - make that tiny - gap between the two. You can see it in the other photos as well, but these two larger photos make it easier to see.

The bottom photo also shows off the lamp a lot better, and I think I now know where they got that erroneous image of this TARDIS for that mag cover, and in The TARDIS Handbook. The lamp itself has its struts set so they face the sides of the prop, whereas the "cover" has its struts set to the corners of the prop. What I'm thinking now is that when they used that image (wherever they got it from), they simply left out the lamp's cover, which is why in the photo the lamp looks wrong. (Plausible?)

Thanks for posting these, David!

Plausible, and obviously there's a degree of subjectivity here as we may all look at it and notice different things, but I think the lamp on that DWM picture is either taken from the TYJ or a replica/original police box (or maybe even a picture of a fresnel). If you look at the lens it is very squat and bows out a good deal, like you see on many frensels on met boxes. The struts are also in the corners to my eye and every far apart, in fact they look to me like they're beyond the corners very slightly, which to me makes me think there are only 3 struts like on the TYJ (on other such examples the housing always looks far bigger than then fresnel). :)
Isn't it how ironic that we have to think of solutions out of the box, in order to build our boxes a lot of the time?

I was referring to the thinner "inner" struts on the lamp itself:
C8D-68.jpg
Here it is again, cropped to show mostly the lamp. I've sharpened the image, and tried to tweaked the brightness and contrast to try reducing glare. The outer "cap" on this one does have large struts on the corners, but the lamp inside it also has its own set of struts, albeit much thinner. But if you look a the places highlighted by the yellow arrows, you can just see (through what I could reduce of the glare) those thin struts, unfortunately not in their entirety because of the glare. (There was only so much I could reduce that glare without losing too much detail.)

Now, if we could get a good image like this of the lamp when it's not lit, then we might see more of those details. Until then, take a look at this post from Cosmic Hobo - http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=4827.30msg66118#msg66118 - it shows what I'm trying to highlight through the glare of the above photo: the thin struts on the actual lamp, which face the sides of the box, vs. the thicker struts of the "lamp cover" which are on the corners of the box.

Just so they are all together:

Image1.jpgImage2.jpgImage3.jpgImage4.jpgImage5.jpgImage6.jpgImage9.jpgImage10.jpgImage12.jpgImage13.jpgImage15.jpgImage16.jpg

Yes that base bit is me merging two frames together to get an almost clean shot of the bottom of the prop.
These are also at the same DVD size as presented by the computer, and not stretched like it would be on a telly - so use carefully!
