Ah. That's one I missed. :P :-[ (I didn't miss the fact that the bubble globes are gone, so maybe that redeems me a little?)

Thanks, BioDoc!

Well when you think you've sorted one thing, you end up having to deal with something else... >:(  ::)

I Haven't fully finished the TARDIS, I've still got to sort out the sign boxes, the phone on the phone door and painting the inside back panel, but other than that, she's done.

Well clearly the console got jealous and threw a strop.... ::) So I've now got to sort that out. I was told by my mate Tom that the rim, which if you remember was made from sponge and mod roc, well its started to go mouldy. Also some of the panels keep falling down as I never built proper supports to attach them to. So that's my plan, I'm going to make the frame better and give it some more stability.

It's not all bad as it's giving me the chance to replace some parts and make it a bit more accurate. I now have some perforated sheet metal, which my mates grandad got for me, 2 x 2ft square sheets, which cost £10  ;D I've also been busy on the laser cutter and have been making parts. I've cut the rotor rings, I've made the 'hubs' one of which goes underneath the demat lever, Some wheel spacers the 'Peg Board' and the plane Panel that was IDed. I've also bought some toggle switches, buttons and 2 blue plastic boxes, but they're all coming from china, so I've got to wait for those to turn up. I plan to make some more bits at college while I still have the chance  ;D  :P

The Rotor tubes I'm going to have to re think, or I'm going to have to spend £60 on getting them. Anyway Pictures....

I also plan to re make the sight glasses, The directors panel, the gyrocompass, add the wheels to the dual levers, and a whole other list of jobs.....so Here we go again!

Hi there Aaron, exciting times!   Those 'hubs' look fantastic, is that just computer cut wood?    Can you post anything more about them, the 3-Dness looks amazing - I wish I could get access to whatever you've used ot make those!

museumdave

I am with Kiwidoc- Those hubs look good...  Nice stuff

Looking good

Looks like you've got a few 2005 Console Lovers suffering "hub Envy(tiny).jpg" (and yes, I'm one of them!).

Brilliant work with that laser cutter! And like kiwidoc says, I wish I had access to the tools you're using (and the knowledge to use them)!

That console is amazing!
I always used to prefer the old series consoles to the new series ones, but you are beginning to change my mind!!
I'm glad it got a good reception at the show you took it to, you deserve every accolade you get!

Hi Guys,

Cheers for the feedback :)

Here are some screenshots of the illustrator files that I use to laser cut the bits I have. They do take a bit of time to work out how to create the template. The Hub was tricky, but it did work...

Hub.png

It basically slots together and then I just glue gunned the base to hold the parts in place. All the bits are just made out of 3mm Hardboard..

Peg Board.png

The Peg board was a lot simpler and it just needed some gallifreyan drawn onto it. Black Etches, RGB Pure Red Cuts

Wheel Spacer & Plane Control.png

These took a little bit of time to try and figure out and then came the rotor rings....

Here are some more pics of some other bits I made today, plus some close ups..

Jeez, BioDoc! You're just knocking pieces for this beauty out left and right! (I definitely wish I had the tools and knowhow that you've got!) I really love how that... whoziwhatzits... turned out!

(This thing:)
WP_20150226_004.jpg
And that close-up of the hub! That base piece looks like a real metal part, as does the ring on its top. I won't even mention how great those sight glasses look. (Oh, wait: I just did. ;D)

Fantastic! (And another touch of Envy(tiny).jpg thrown in there!)

BioDoctor900

Well I've been busy making some more bits  ::)  :P So the pile is getting bigger...

WP_20150227_001.jpg

These are the bits I made today...

WP_20150227_002.jpg

The Clutch Plate

WP_20150227_003.jpg

The Compass

WP_20150227_004.jpg

And Two CRT Yolk bases

WP_20150227_005.jpg

I've got to make another 2 CRT Plates, one with the yolk on top. I also got some light up toggle switches through the post, 1 green, 2 blue, although got to order two more green ones

It's slowly getting there with the parts, I'm looking forward to getting it looking better, the only thing I'm not looking forward to making is the rim...But I'll get to that when it comes to it. I've got to make the structure a bit more sturdy first

So... now there are four people that - at any time - could possibly find me lurking inside their attics, basements, or garages (depending on where their console lives): in alphabetical order; BioDoctor900, kiwidoc, M.D., and superrichi1a!

You're all on my Envy(small).jpg list! ;D ;D ;D

BioDoctor900

Well, I've been busy making more bits for the console  ::)  :P

I've made one of the black plane controls from the phone panel and I got some green button switches in the post today, one of which goes on that panel and the other of which goes on one of the butresses. I also made the hemi's that are dotted about the console, they have a slight slot in them, this is because they are the negative side of the balls that Dalek Builders use for the hemi's I just sprayed them up silver and then used some bronze, gold and black paint to texture them...

WP_20150302_002.jpg

WP_20150303_004.jpg

Oh and I also robbed Henry Van Statten....

WP_20150303_003.jpg

This was made buy cutting out a 140mm Clutch Plate and a plain 140mm Circle, and this is mounted on some smaller circles that are stacked, the wheel spacers are the same size as a CD, then the top is a lid from a mayonnaise jar and the top off a plastic cork in the centre

I'm hoping to get some more done soon and I'm still waiting on the toggle switches and bits to turn up that I ordered

Whoa! Nice! (I've said it before: I wish I had access to the tools that you do, and the knowledge to use them! I'd be cutting out control plates like the ones you've made, and who knows what else!)

Ok, so today I got onto working on the console, and I was looking forward to it until I started to put bits on the panels. The problem with having a 2/3 scale console is that you can't make all the parts and expect them all to go on  :-\ So I've had to put on the most important bits and make it look as good as I can. One improvement was he metal panels, which look a LOT better. The rim needs sorting, and its something I'm really not looking forward to it. Also the buttresses could probably do with being re covered, but with moving flat, I haven't got time or money at the minute. Anyway, here are the pics....

I've still got to get something for the rotor tubes and sort out the mechanism, get the lights back in it and try and make the structure sturdier and hold the panels in place properly, instead of being propped up with bits of wood

More Soon, Hopefully

She's not looking bad at all, BioDoc! As for the size of parts, you can always go with what my wife says would be the "Chibi" look. They do things like that in Japan all the time with some things: take a scaled-down version of something, make parts of it proportional to the scaled size, and some parts full scale. It usually turns out looking rather cute:
(an example...
WingZero.jpg   WingZero-Chibi.jpg
Gundam Wing Zero...                                                   ...and a Chibi Gundam Wing Zero

Ah! You're talking about the console ribs! (That didn't take me long to realize at all - only a few months! :P) Usually when we think of "buttresses" we think of those large supports running from the ceiling to the floor of the console room.)

Well, on the original prop they had internal bulkheads under each rib, and they had supports running along them that supported the panels' sides. (The bulkheads also helped support the ribs so they didn't fold in on themselves, what with that relatively sharp "elbow" bend where the rim was.) There was also a strip of something (you can see it in some close-up photos of the panels, but can't quite tell what it is) running along the curve inside the rim that helped support the front edges of the panels.

Well the console is not in the garage anymore, but in my new flat, in my bedroom :D So it gives me more of a chance to work on it. So that's what I've been doing.

So here's a few pictures....

I got the sonic charging port put into one of the hubs :D

WP_20150404_010.jpg

WP_20150405_005.jpg

I also had to replace some of the mod roc on the buttress with the sextant on

As you can see I've got the two plastic boxes with the switches wired up with Blue LED's, I've added a flashing light under one of the crystals and I've replaced the light in the push light as the yellow light went. I've wired up the green switches on the mesh panel with the control panel and compass, one to the LED lights underneath and one to the LED's at the top of the rotor. I've painted the handles on the levers black. I've also added in a few more SA switches. The Screen has died on me, so that needs to be replaced. I plan on remaking the demat lever, the clutch lever, the rim, the central neck, the rotor rings and the screen mechanism. I've also got to sort out the rotor mechanism and the rotor innards and I'm going to add in some blue LED's to make it more turquoise. So there's still a bit of work to do with it

So this is a short video that I recorded to show it off....https://youtu.be/61tZJ5_SoA8

So more soon hopefully
