Clever idea using some cutoffs as backing for the screws. The base looks great, and it's nice to see K-9 able to roll around and follow you about anywhere you might take him. (I'll bet he'd be a huge hit at conventions.)

Thanks Dino. Still working out how i can wedge the old remote control car into the base at the moment, at some point i'll be attacking it with a drill! lol  :D

Although k-9 Is unfinished, I thought I'd do something for friends to see who didn't know what I was up to.

I'll share it here in case anyone has 10 mins to waste at some point and don't know what to do with themselves!

You might have to try a different link or way of posting it, Balders. When I click on your link I get redirected to this page:

(Cropped to show the relevant part.)

Different URL, and that horrid "error" message. I might not be the only one experiencing this difficulty. (Why can't all of Youtube on this planet just get along?)

GRR, yep, you are right, this will be down to UK and US not playing together on video rights no doubt, as i've just tested it from another isp over here and it opens still.  >:(

I'll work out how to host a version on my own site as well.

If you're desperate, keepvid.com may let you put the video link into it and allow you to download it? I've not tried for another country's video I cannot access, so its possible it may not work at all! But good luck!

Nice video btw darth, glad to see it all together in one stream instead of bits and pieces here :)

Thanks, it was the only way i could think of showing the build process with a bit of fun thrown in. :)

Dino - can you give this one a try for me if you get a chance (but it will start playing straight away!)

That one worked fine, Balders! Great slide show, though there was no way to pause it for a closer look in spots. Still, at least I got to see K-9 coming together in steps!

thanks for checking that, at least I know my oz friends can look at that now as they couldn't see the you tube version either.

It was converted using some free website so it'll do for now, but that's why it's small and doesn't pause.

Someone pointed out that as i'm not in any photos, it looks like our 4 year old has been quite busy! haha

cheers

So, I had a think and decided I won't paint the indents onto the side yet, as I have a feeling I'll just make it look worse rather than better!

Maybe one day when i'm feeling brave i'll give it a go. ;)

In the meantime, just a couple of bits done, first off putting something black around the bottom of K-9 to match the toy.
I had thought about buying the pipe covering stuff and painting black, but instead thought I'd try this..

It's black cable trunking I had laying around from a work job, meaning no extra cost and they also have double sided sticky tape on the back!

Seems to hold OK, and looks fairly similar to the Palitoy K-9.  :D

So cut a few more pieces down to size and stuck them on

Also, my little helper (who was just in a supervisory role today) pointed out the small K-9 has a small circle piece in the centre of his eye, so we (me) needed to sort that out as well.

Thoughts of cutting something, maybe a 10p painted, all quickly cast away as being too much like having to take any time!

So, a magnet and a piece of double sided sticky tape on the back was the winner!

And one last photo for now

A friend has made me a small board with LEDs on which I can fit in the back box or the head to light it up, only runs on a lithium battery but will be good for halloween. Photos of that in a couple of weeks when I get it from him and have time to fit it.

Bye for now!  ;D

Looking stunning! It's really coming into it's own now and starting to look complete. Going with the toy look was certainly a good decision as, like I rambled about before, it has it's own aura and personality, almost.
The colour looks nice and surprisingly metallic! I also love the way you did the bumpers - personally, I don't like grey pipe insulator bumpers very much and looked for a nicer alternative like yours. In the end I just spray painted grey insulators black, but it flakes off something awful! Somewhat accurate to the School Reunion one to be fair, but makes a damn mess!
Keep it up!
Isn't it how ironic that we have to think of solutions out of the box, in order to build our boxes a lot of the time?

darth_baldrick

Thanks for the feedback, the photos don't really show just how much it looks like silver metal, especially on the scruffy bits where I didn't make the filler smooth, it looks like bad welding. lol

I was surprised how it suddenly looks more like a giant version of the toy , just by adding the black around the edges.

A bit more tweaking to come for K-9, then back to the Tardis build and maybe time for a custom half console build before the next party!

OK, only sort of an update as we had our WHOlloween party on the 1st November (as it was the nearest Saturday to Halloween).

K-9 had a little cheap modification for a couple of days

20141031_201339 (Medium).jpg

It was actually a battery LED tea light, bargain at under £2 and lasted for over 24 hours of being constantly on.  8)
