The stunt box had a base, but it was just on the left and right sides of the box. The center was open. Here's a clearer shot.  I think the doors were normal in their width, though.

I was under the impression that the box in that sign was not only missing the floor (and the back wall, making it more an arch than a box) but that it was also wider to allow the bike through easier.

Yes it is wider, probably by a foot I'd say.  Look at the front sign box (there isn't one on the back).

It's probably why they shot this particular scene from an almost complete side angle - so you wouldn't notice the extra width of the prop as one would if viewed from head-on. And the scene where the cop is speeding away is a "long shot", so if they didn't use the hero prop, you probably wouldn't have time to notice the extra width anyway, what with the prop in the far background and the motorcycle blocking most of the view as it raced into the foreground.

(And of course, they probably didn't plan on people like us using the PAUSE button and screen grabs to scrutinize things like this. )

I imagine the choice of shooting angle was to heighten the visual gag more than anything else.

An interesting thing to note in the daytime shots is that the windows have a more amber appearance like the earlier props did.

Not trying to let the "Rivet Counter" in me show through, but for the Met Box sign (Original Mark 3 Police Box in the Table column), shouldn't the background be blue rather than black? They're blue on all of the boxes we have color photos for, and it's blue in the table column Original, but in the Reproduction (Thumbnail) column and the PDF, (http://quartus.net/nbridges/images/tardis/mark3top.pdf) they're black. It's a bit confusing.

The PDF's are to provide the vector shapes; the print shop can adjust the colour to whatever you choose, or they can be used as cutting templates for vinyl, etc.

Interesting.  I hadn't noticed, before, just how square the panels were on this prop.  I mean, I think they're more rectangular than the ones on the new props, but they are definitely more square than on the 1963 prop.  Now I've got to have another look at the Newberry and the TYJ. 

A point of useless trivia, but at the late design stage of my build when I realised it wouldn't be full NST, I designed the walls to be a cross between some Brachaki plans I had, and Buill Rudloff's excellent NST ones, and years later I discovered that actually I'd unknowingly hit the Hudolin panel size nearly bang on. Food for thought, certainly. It puts into perspective how it isn't the square panels that make the NST look larger and more "boxy", but their size in relation to the styles and corner posts etc. with the Hudolin you may never notice it unless pointed out or it catches your eye.

The story goes that the wood that was ordered was pre-cut at the wrong width for the vertical stiles, so they had no choice but to use them as is due to time constraints.  If you want to see a more "idealized" Hudolin, look up Justin Nyquist's build.
