Here is a couple of non-watermarked crops of the St. John logo:
SjJohnLogo(new)01.jpg
Lightened as best I could. You can see that at about the 8 o'clock position the sticker is indeed pulling away from the door.

And here, closer:
SjJohnLogo(new)02.jpg
Again lightened as much as I dared. While you can't see too much of that lifting edge of the sticker, what you don't see are any screws holding this logo in place, so it's not a plate; we've seen that logo plates have screws at 3 and 9 o'clock to hold them on.

Also, speaking of the PTO panel: while the Series 5 panel had just the surface of the lettering painted black, allowing light to bleed out from "around" the lettering, these letters are solid black from surface to where they meet the background of the panel. And take a close look at the E in "USE" - the top arm of the E is broken off, and what remains on the panel is the black marks left behind, probably from the gluing on of the letter. (Going back to the Classics... and the "battered blue box"?)

Making a more detailed comparison, the St John badge is still the same as it was on the Smith TARDIS, just with the added inner circle.

Compared to an actual St John badge of the same type/vintage, the font is different, that inner circular line is thicker, and the central cross is a bit smaller than the real thing.

For reference --

Actually, if you go back to the original thread on the logo (http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=1123.0) you'll see on Page 6 that markofrani posted a great grab of the Smith St. John logo and you can see that while similar, the logo is not the same:

Here's a grab of the Matt Smith Tardis prop with the St John's Ambulance logo. It does look a little different to the one posted. The type is bigger and there is no outer keyline on the inner black circle.
msambulancelogo.jpg

The font is different in style and letter thickness, there is less space between the bottom of the letters and the black circle, and the cross at the bottom is much thicker. What Capaldi's TARDIS appears to have been given is an actual St. John logo, in sticker form, but at the same 5-inch diameter as all its TV TARDIS predecessors.

Kinda strange they're making all these subtle little changes that most people are never going to pick up on. It doesn't seem to be changing the overall look of the box in any real way, so I'm not sure why they're bothering...

LOL!  Because they like driving people like us crazy who do notice.  A Doctor Who quote seems appropriate here:  "Because they delight in deviousness, that's why.  It amuses them........" - 3rd Doctor.

Ah yes, I should have gone back to the early pics of the Smith sign for that. Sorry.

It got even worse later on. Screen cap from "The Bells of St. John" --

However, what I posted as reference in my previous reply is a real St. John logo. The real stickers and decals are very close to it in most forms I've seen and decidedly different than the Capaldi sticker as delineated above, so I'm pretty sure they're not using the real thing.

Here's an old helmet decal --

Compared to the new Capaldi sticker, besides the size of the cross in the central circle, look at the "S", the "J", the "O", the "M", and most especially the "C". Different font entirely. The one used by St. John is more like that used by the Met on their top signs in their final iteration. A geometric, architectural font similar to "KEEPCALM", itself derived from the "Keep Calm, Carry On" posters produced during the war.

Still, it's a whole lot closer than the original Smith version. Maybe somebody over there visits this forum :)

Wow. The logo from "Bells" is really different: the letters are smaller; the black center is larger in diameter; but looking at the size of the overall logo it looks like they kept the arrowheads and animals the same size. (The cross at the bottom seems to be just as thick and the same size it always was, but is the same size as the new lettering now that the lettering is smaller.)

Maybe I should tweak my Matt Smith St. John logo to reflect this drastic change and post that in the main St. John logo thread for reference, and for anyone to print out and use as they will for their build. (I haven't tweaked a St. John logo in so long I'm almost giddy at the thought!)

Here's quite a cool one:

Again the windows here look like they've had translucent black inserts put in, but noticeably the open door visible has a certain lack of light. Just a quick point of interest really. Hasn't the show had problems in the past with the production team forgetting that open doors do not light up as much? Creating inconsistency with the doors of the actual sets which do lose that light.
Isn't it how ironic that we have to think of solutions out of the box, in order to build our boxes a lot of the time?

DoctorWho8

It could be at the angle they are taking the shot, the door window lights were causing problems, so they shut them off as they aren't in shot.  But the other windows might be.

You may well be right, personally I hope they're wising up though! That's exactly how they look when open on the set, being the nerd I am it was the first think I checked as it was the bit of my build I was mulling over at the time, so it creates quite a nice but of continuity if done that way.

Interesting to note, that's a Sanctuary Base 6 uniform (The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit - the logo's clearer in some other on-site photos)... wonder why that's cropped up again, are they just reusing the costume without bothering to modify it?

DoctorWho8

Well the Doctor did keep his suit.  It's probably the one he had in the TARDIS.

And... her head is perfectly blocking that new St. John logo! :P (She does look darned good in that suit, though!)

To me she looks strikingly like Sarah-Jane Smith! Coincidence maybe, or maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I like the idea that maybe they're trying to recreate a bit of that old look.
