Hey guys!

Does anyone know the approximate measurements/lengths/angles that one would use to build a 12 sided console?

how big do you want it to be?

here are the angles for a dodecagon

You may want to use this polygon calculator http://www.calculatorsoup.com/calculators/geometry-plane/polygon.php
why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.

Something else that might help give you a few ideas is this Build Diary: http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=273.0. And if you don't want to "cannibalize" one of those tables as the base on which to build your console (because those tables can be expensive), you could see if your local hardware/home improvement store has a cable spool of the right size you're looking for, like in this thread: http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=1848.0. (If they're just going to toss the spool, they may just let you take it.)

Hope this helps.

Thank guys. I was just wondering how to make the panels.

I.E: If I make twelve rectangles, does anyone know what angle should be cut out of them to make twelve trapeziums?

Well, that will really depend on the steepness of your panels' angle (how tall the console will be from the plane of the panels' outer edge to the central column base). The higher your angle is, the less of a trapezoid angle you'll need. (See the difference in panel trapezoid angle between http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=280.0 - which has panels that are relatively flat - as compared to that of rmef2's http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=273.0, which had panels that were pretty tall. Celation's panels were drastic trapezoids, whereas rmef2's panels were only slight trapezoids.

Try plugging some of your trial measurements into the Panel Angle Calculator at the start of this Board here: http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?board=30.0. One of the measurements it calculates is the trapezoid angle; it's the last measurement on the list. Check it out and you'll see it.

Hopefully all this helps.

My friend doesn't have access to the internet and wanted to build a twelve-sided console so he asked me to find some information/measurements for him.

Most of us have been building the 6 sides variety of console - but we love creativity here so lets give this a try.

Q1: How wide does your friend want the console to be?
Q2: How wide does your friend want the panels at the base to be?
Q3: How wide does your friend want the center column to be?
Q4: Not counting the Center Column, How tall is the console?

why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.

I think if you get the measurements warmcanofcoke listed, and then plug them into the Panel Angle calculator since you have access to the Internet, then between all of us we can help you figure something out to help your friend.
