Ah Haaa...'this TYJ'.... love it..... ;) - or did you mean JNT? strange wording anyways....

The door pull sign changed numerous times, and fitted differently each time - sometimes it was actually fully functional and on a totally different wooden set of doors (as in Delta and the Bannermen)...

There has always been a slight gap around this particular sign, in Tom Baker's Last season... (which was an artificial frontage - a sort of picture frame with writing in it)
I replicated  the 'gap' when fitting it carefully keeping that slightly ill fitting 'gappy' look on purpose -so as to please my fellow fans - who like their accuracy, it's not meant to look like a mistake or something which shouldn't be there... but how it appeared on screen in season 18....
and remember, just because you didn't notice it, doesn't mean it wasn't there.... look again....

LOL I guess that was rather poorly phrased on my part. I was referring to there having been two of this prop (second one made during Colin Baker's run, IIRC). But also now I think about it, I seem to recall reading that the signs swapped between TYJ 1 and TYJ 2 depending on which prop was favoured for which shoot and which was the current sign... Or something like that.

Also, didn't mean to suggest you'd made any mistakes! Just as you say, because I didn't see it, doesn't mean it wasn't there ;)

If I haven't said it before, I will now... We should all be very thankful for the damn fine work you've done on this box, TWICE NOW!! :)

- its okay I'm not easily offended. LOL :P
thanks for the kind words of appreciation...
I am grateful to this forum's boards also as I did a lot of my research on here, and joined in the fun!
I said it before and I'll say it again, someone had to get the job... it was just my turn in the luck stakes!
I'm sure which ever one of us got the job - it would have been done to the highest degree... no...?

You had a pretty good resume, I've seen your time rotor and your roundel panel :)

Great work. I've been killing myself, trying to figure out how to get that oxidized paint look.  Is there a trick to it, or is it just picking the right shade of paint and carefully applying it?

I must say, this is still my favorite out of the Police Box props, although I liked the mods they did to it in Logopolis to make it look more like the refurb Newbury box, with the taller lamp base and bigger sign boxes etc.  Nice to see that it's back in form and in a museum where everyone can enjoy it.

It's so funny that Andrew Beech is your boss.  I met him at Gallifrey One last year when be brought  some original costume pieces for some folks to see, and I was shocked when I saw them, and was a little tipsy, and in retrospect I felt like and idiot asked who he was, but I sure as hell know now! And I never got a chance to thank him properly for brining the costumes (I got a chance to compare my Steve Ricks Season 16/17 Tom Baker coat and scarf with Andrews!  I totally geeked out as Mr Ricks himself and Andrew did the comparisons while me and another guy just stood there modeling!) If he goes to Gallifrey One this year, I shall have to offer him a drink or two. Awesome guy.

Oh and about the TYJ box in the experience, yes both front and back have opening doors.  If you watch Peter Davison's video to the attendees of Gallifrey One 2011, you can see him enter the right hand door of the prop.  In the Five(ish) Doctors Reboot, they enter through the left hand door, ala Season 18 & 19.

Since this is the mk II box made to look like the mk I, do we know how the mk I is actually doing?

A photo of the MKI popped up a while back (circa 2011), although it wasn't nearly as knackered as the MKII during the "in the wild" days, the MKI was still looking a little sorry for itself.

As it's in private ownership (Andrew Beech, the same person who took possession of the Five Doctors Console Prop) it's unknown what the current status of the prop is, or if it's going to be restored.

interesting to see that that Damage on the sign dates back to the 1980s

why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.
Oh? - I'm researching the new edition.

Cheers.

It still looks to have the season 26 paint job.

As can be seen from those two shots, they got rid of the left hand door and made both side right hand doors (possibly in season 25 when they made a new door for the arrow..?).

I see from timerotor's flickr page that the box is having another update and mighty fine it looks too! As it's my personal favourite, it's great to see it looking like it's original self.

And doing a repaint of the 5 Doctor's console set too.  And he got Tom Baker to autograph what look to be Tom's old boots!

The MkII has swapped back to the right-door configuration (and my personal favourite).
