But the little lever on in the top left. :D

The display needs spraying

I wanted to ask about the two white squares on it.

Here's a quick snap of the nearly completed panel number... 2? I'm losing track...

Yes; this is Panel 2 (at least according to the article in the then-Doctor Who Weekly article on this console: http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=2104.0#msgx20275 - link provided so you don't have to constantly go looking for that thread when you need a reference reminder. The first post has the diagrams of the panels - with numbering of the panels and their controls - scanned from the article.

Not sure whether to add the missing top-left lever or not. It disappeared pretty early on.

Not quite in the top left. The top edge of the lever housing is almost even with the top two bolts of the top two lamps, and its right side is almost touching the bolts of the left-most of the three lamps just below. To get it to fit in that space, you may need to shift the two left silver handles to the left a bit more. (See the above article's diagram for more accuracy than I can scribble down here.)

If you don't add that switch then you won't be able to open the doors :O

Chris!
Again nice pic!  I see you have the dividing fins in place. I  see the Cardiff exhibition has a '63 console up + running! Though your console is undoubtedly the Rolls Royce one! It'd be interesting to know what the Beeb will do with their '63 console after 'An Adventure In Time and Space' has been transmitted!
Best as ever

Rolls Royce indeed! (I think the jaguar of the group is mistaken in a few of it's design decisions!) :P

I mean only that the AAISAT console dosen't quite hold up to the majesty of Mr Celations's amazing build.

Sorry if my alcohol intake prevents me from being clear :(

I have to agree. This is what the console should have been in AAISAT. But it wasn't. Celations is so much faithful to the original.

Yes, me too! I have to log-in every now and then to get my fix!
Best to all

I'm going as fast as I can here! ;) Still just about on target for the 50th...

I've completed the six panel divider strips, though only fitted one as yet, though two are painted. I've used a cupboard-magnet setup for this, which works very well, although it takes a bit of time to do each one.

There has been a major breakthrough in that I  have the central paddle wheel turning (a little fast currently) and I have successfully put the lid on the column cover. Vertical motion will be a future project, I think.

An area where I could do with a little advice is the control of the flashing lights in the column. I need three timers which will continuously give me approx 3 seconds on, 3 off for 230V. Unfortunately I'm not really sure what would be the best thing for the job. Anyone out there got any advice on this front?

Chris, I've been poking about for this one and I think I found something that may be of use to you:
http://www.circuitstoday.com/lamp-flasher-using-ne-555
(And for reference posterity, the circuit; I can also transcribe the operational description as well if anyone feels it necessary, so we have that to go with the diagram in case this link ever goes dead. But the link is posted already so the credit for the circuit goes to that site.)
ACvoltFlasher.jpg

The page explains how the circuit works (if you need clarification on anything just let me know). Most of these parts can be found at any electronics parts store (Radio Shack is a US favorite), and 95% or better will only cost a few cents (US). I'm not sure how much the Q1 (the BC 548) or T1 (the BT136) will cost because I've never had cause to buy one of them before, but considering the rest of this circuit, they shouldn't be all that much. And D1 (the BZ 148 near the left bottom) is just a zener diode voltage regulator.

Of course the 230VAC on the left is going to be the plug and your wall outlet for power coming in; the 230 VAC Lamp on the right will be your column's tube. (The "G" and "M1" and "M2" of T1 are the leads on that component.) I'm going to guess that since you've got this beauty all wired up otherwise you know the rest of the symbols and how to read one of these diagrams.

Anyway, just build this three times and you'll have your flasher circuit for each lamp in the column. With the tolerances in the components not being perfect, even if you build identical circuits your lamps will most likely not flash at the "exact" same rate - which will only lend to the accuracy as not even the original console had its lamps flashing at the same rate. And if things look a little too "timed", you can always adjust those components that control the flashing to change the flash rate a little. (Sometimes it helps to use variable components on those places so just a small turn of a thin jeweler's screwdriver can adjust the flash rate of each lamp while you watch the others until you get the look you want.)

I hope this helps.

You know... I kinda had a feeling it would be you to come through on this one, Dino!  :) Thank you!

I have actually tried making a dual transistor circuit with a triac, but I can't get the darn thing to work, try as I might. This seems like a simpler and possibly more reliable alternative. I'll give it a go.

Cheers!
