Well then. Never mind.

But that does take a bit of the worry out of being off topic.

Not to deviate from the topic, evil bob, but Crispin hasn't been with us for quite some time now. He left the Forum sometime last May, and he's still missed by many. Hopefully he'll come back one day, but for now, I don't even know if he checks in as a "guest" just to see how things are going.

Thank you everyone for the top sign dimensions and fonts (a tip of the hat also to Bill Rudloff).
Signs are expensive to make here. I will most likely only get one shot at this so I am hoping the shop can work with PDF.
I will let you know the outcome.

To make the signs I brought some perspex /Plexiglas cut them to size, I am  lucky enough  to know a fellow who make up signs,  prints on tee shirts, makes  banners, car vinyl graphics even wall paper if one so desires, I got him to make them up for me,  did not cost the earth you can try to find someplace to do that for you you should make a saving.

Wow- These are impressive. I hope I can have the same luck. ;D

I am submitting the 2005 PDF top sign that was graciously posted to this thread to the sign shop.

Before i make the wrong size, Can anyone confirm my dimensions?
Referring to this website, I have calculated the actual size of teh sign to be 4 inches (101.6 mm) by 40 inches (1016 mm).

Am I on the right track?

The 2005 size is 50 inches by 6 inches.  This allows an extra 1/8 inch all around to allow the signs to be slotted into grooves in the sign boxes.

Thank you Bill. I think you just saved me some serious $$ from having to get them remade. I have not made the boxes yet as I wanted to get the signs first. Appreciate the help!

It might be worth having the signs made up and applying  to the perspex / plexiglass your self the cost of the signs I had made up cost me no more then £15.00 aprox $22 canadian dollars and that was for two St Johns signs the top signs and the phone door sign, the postage to have them made here in the UK and shipped to you would not be that expensive it an Idea  :)

all the best

Found this lovely high res B&W image from the Ribos Operation promo shots, and it's got a dead on shot of the top and door signs.   I'm posting my cropped and cleaned up version of the top sign here so people can get a better feel for the font.  I'll probably take a stab of making a PDF version matching the fonts on this much better.

Hi Dale,

Your quoted price seems incredible! I just got a UK quote for the 4 top sign set, door and St.John signs cutout in adhesive backed vinyl for me to mount on perspex at around £90 + postage the lot, and I thought that was good! Any chance you could recommend a supplier for those?

These sign box PDF's are a god send!

Does anyone know how to print them to scale?

What I mean is, I want to print the Hudolin sign, but specify what size I need it to be (9 1/2cm x 117cm) for example and the printer will print it using as many A4 sheets as needed?

Cheers

Mark

A good rule of thumb (depending on your choice of TARDIS) is the sign is roughly the same width as the distance across the windows from edge to edge.

I use a program (free too) called poster printer or something similar. You drag in your image and then type in how big you need it to be printed at and then it shows you what the print would look like ie over x number of pages.

You can also take the PDF to a place like Office Max/Depot (or the UK equivalent). They have the ability to print poster-like signs on one sheet, and they can print the size you tell them you need. For the Top Signs they should be able to get all four printed on one sheet, and it will be a laser print (no chance of any ink running if a drop of water gets on it). I remember someone here did that not long ago and said it wasn't expensive at all. At least that's another option to consider.

Been a long time since I've posted on here! I used to be Pepsiman98, but I haven't been able to get into the email I used for that account in a long time, so I figured I might as well start fresh. Anyways, I'm not sure if it could be added to the original post since it seems like scarfwearer left but I've learned a lot about graphic arts in the five years since I posted my renditions of the Newbery and Yardley-Jones signs, and I'd like to put forward new and improved versions in a vector format! They're not perfect, but they're much closer to the real things than I was able to achieve five years ago. I can say that I'm proud of these at least, and not being proud of my original work was the last push I needed to come back. :P

And the PDFs, not really sure what method/site would be preferred with hosting these:
