The whiter panels in the windows concur with my theory that they're now using a different method to light them, as shown in the proms where these panels were brighter. Also it looks to me that the black of the windows is lighter, closer to a glowing grey, which is how my windows look when light shines through the windows on the left side of the box and slightly illuminate the right ones. If I didn't know any better (which I don't), I'd gamble that my window construction is now screen accurate!
In these pictures the central divider looks thinner than on the Proms box, but I think that's the only detail that seems out of place. Looking back at the Proms pictures it seems to me that actually the divider COULD be smaller than we first thought, but appeared bigger then due to the shadows.
Isn't it how ironic that we have to think of solutions out of the box, in order to build our boxes a lot of the time?

I see they've been doing the TARDIS up a bit... again; I don't like it.

To be fair, it hasn't looked like a Metropolitan Police Box in a very long time.

I don't think the TARDIS prop has ever looked like a Met Box unless you could the two Peter Cushing films.

So... now the pebbled glass has turned into white glass. (That's the bit I really don't like about the changes. In almost 50 years there has never been such stark contrast in the color of the "glass" in the window panes.) The new paint job? Maybe it's just the bright unfiltered sunlight that makes the blue look so BLUE; it's almost that vibrant blue like in the 'Key to Time' series. (I actually had a 1972 VW Karman Ghia in this 'new' color!) And looking at those window frames, I don't know if the trim is actually wider, or if the panes are just set in deeper. (The angle of the front doors does make them look like they're deeper set.) But then, these are far shots. We won't know for sure until the Christmas Special airs and we get some close-ups of the new "Old Girl".

I think they based this design off of a chinese knock-off toy! And they still have the squashed 'police box' font on the main over door sign.

To be fair, the TARDIS has always (minus the pipe organ etc) looked like a Metropolitan Police Box, it's just the accuracy that has been a bit off.

In my opinion this picture does make the box look very blue, and the windows are looking less like windows (more just painted details of the wall) and there is something about the top sign that doesn't fit well with me for some reason.

All of the above said, after remember what it was like being a Whovian (is that term still used these days?) between "Survival" and "Rose", I am more than happy to actually see the TARDIS on my TV year after year no matter how it looks.

Here's a wonderful closeup of the "Series 8" TARDIS.  You can see the detail of the box much better.

Looking at the long-shot photo, the signs don't look (to me at least) to have squashed Police Box text, but the sign itself looks to be bigger.
Not sure I like the brighter glass panes, but I do like the window frames and the slightly weathered paint job it has.

rob49152

Sorry I meant the 'PUBLIC CALL' part of the sign. The O in BOX part is circular but the font looks squashed for the centre part.

After getting that closer look from the photo Bill posted, those window panes are definitely deeper set in the frames than they've been on the 2005-2010 models:

2005 model (Series 1)
2005Windows01.jpg

2005 model (Series 2-4)
2005Windows02.jpg

2010 model (Series 5-7)
2010Windows.jpg

2014 model (Series 8-)
2014Windows.jpg

Those 2014 frames are certainly thicker, but they're also much deeper front to back.

That "Close-Up" Photo has been "Squashed" as the windows and panels look  rectangular rather than square like the original "on location" photos?

DoctorWho8

The Perspective and type of lens used by the photographer probably has distorted the proportions, so until a nice full on shot in good lighting comes about, things can't be fully confirmed.

In terms of the paintwork the shade of blue I prefer the series 5 colour which was darker. Also it was more in line with the other tardis props and more true to the real metropolitan police boxes.

Also the windows and door panels seem much narrower compared to the previous new series tardis props. This includes the series 1-4 and the series 5-7 boxes.

Well, over the decades the TARDIS prop has ranged from a very dark blue-grey (Hartnell era), to a bluish grey (Troughton and early Pertwee era), almost light blue ("The Three Doctors"), more grey than blue (the final stories involving the Brachacki box), high-gloss royal blue (the "Key to Time series), a blue that almost matched the New Series prop (the Davison through the end of the McCoy TV series), a dark blue (the McGann 1996 Series Revival Pilot Movie), and has changed shades from during New Series 1-4, gone bright blue in Series 5, and toned down a bit in Series 6-7. The prop's color will most likely always change so while the Old Girl is (apparently) really bright blue now, she could dull down at any time. (The only consistency in the TARDIS prop's color is its inconsistency. ;))

This would certainly bring the Series 8 prop more in line with the Classic Series props, to include the 1996 Series Revival Pilot Movie. The Classic Series props had much narrower panels than those on any New Series prop thus far.

Um, Dino.... When you say Key to Time season (16), I think you mean Season 13 (Zygons to Seeds of Doom). Season 14 debuted the Newbery box, along with the wooden console room ;-)

You're right though, the gloss finish was used at the end of the life of the Brachacki prop :-)
