I think the ol' mushroom knob control is done (enough (for Now))
I got a bit held up as I was trying to make it click as it was twisted, as the control does at the beginning of 'the end of the word'..... didn't work out too well.


So the proportions is not quite right, and I used a different symbol on the top, but I think it is good enough for now.

Also realized that little handle is more complex than I first thought, but what I have will work, until I find something better.



Have also been working on the tardis seat, more on that later.

I think that looks rather well done, M.D.! And I can see in your paused screen that the little handle is indeed more than the plug-in end of an interchangeable screwdriver handle. Interesting, that. (Now I really wonder what it was.)

As for the clicking sound... there is a number of way that could be done:

with a strip of sheet styrene and the ridged cap of some bottle, making it work like putting a playing card into the spokes of a bicycle wheel - though you'd have to hollow out the mushroom so it could sit over the cap and then stick the strip of styrene on the inside side of the mushroom so it pressed sufficiently against the cap; but if you turned the control too fast it might make more of a buzzing sound;

use a Dremel and cut shallow slots into the rib, in a circle, under where the mushroom control is going to be mounted; then cut a deeper slot into the bottom of the mushroom so that slot lines up with those in the rib, and insert a strip of sheet styrene into the mushroom's slot; this way when you turn the control, the styrene will "thwap" in the slots on the rib, and that should give you more of a clicking sound, especially if the rib's slots aren't too close together.

And of course, you could try to find a large, noisy rotary switch, mount that on the console rib, and use the mushroom control as the switch's knob. (Then at some point, if you came up with an idea for it, you could always wire something up to that control so it actually operates something.)

Once again I hope my babblings provide some thoughts. And of course...

It is not actually a pocket watch.  I did copy the graphic from the watch and turn it into a pin on button.  that is what it is... it seems to look pretty good, but when you touch it you realize that the pattern isn't raised at all.

Thanks for your thoughts all....

just found something kind of funny and thought I would share. Our youngest daughter recently returned from a trip to the dollar store with a little to police kit.  It had a plastic badge, handcuffs, walkie talkies and a little Billy club/night stick that looks like this-


It is small (not to scale) and made of very light plastic, but I was thinking when she is done with it- with a few small modifications it might make a believable stand in for one of the more odd bits of console detritus.

It's great fun following this build! Every time we see an update, we see the boat being pushed further out in terms of originality, or, my new favourite phrase, thinking outside the box in order to get stuff built inside the box It's a pleasure to see this coming along in such a fun and unexpected way!

By the way, I was looking but I couldn't find a mention - how big is your console actually? It LOOKS like a perfectly natural full size one in the pictures, but that's be amazing if you got something that size up in the attic!!

In terms of measurements.  I have tried to make it 'full scale' but with a complete lack of dimensions from the BBC- I relied heavily on the reference photos on this forum.
To that end I think I am probable pretty close to 'real' size but I expect I am off a bit here and there, and it wouldn't be too shocking for me to discover that I am off by as much as 20% of scale....
I was watching Adam Savage from Mythbusters talk about replica prop building recently- He was saying something about this in reference to a blade runner blaster (I think).

So Right dimensions (in Attic Space). The truth is I have misplaced my original calculations, so I will remeasure and post the overall dimensions here-

I imagine if any of us got permission to actually measure a console or police box, we'd show up looking like CSI, pulling out measuring tapes, calipers, L-shaped square rulers, decent cameras, memory cards, lighting, piles of notebooks and if possible, one of those 3D Laser Scanning rigs, just to get as accurate measurements as possible.

Brilliant, I have exactly the same thing!  I have it ready for installation in the console for the odd burst of energy/breakdown...

Love the video, M.D.! Nice thing about having the console in the attic is you don't have to worry about setting off any smoke alarms when there's a breakdown!

As for "Grimlock"... (Are you old enough to remember the original 'Transformers' cartoon from the early-mid 1980s? If not, then here's a brief explanation... In one episode the Autobots build several "Dinobots"; they're huge, extremely powerful, and since they based the design on real dinosaurs gave them extremely small brains, which made the Dinobots impossible to control. Finally out of necessity they fitted the Dinobots with some sort of control rings around their brains to suppress their inherent unruliness and they became great assets. One of the Dinobots was a T-Rex named Grimlock. He spoke in a really deep, gruff voice and with a diminished vocabulary thanks to his dinosaur-like brain. He never used proper pronouns when referring to himself, always using "Me, Grimlock..." instead. He was also great for comic relief in certain instances.)

It's sort of how I feel sometimes when seeing some of the builds taking place here, and I think you're not the only one I've used that phrase on. Not that I feel diminished in the brain area when I see what so many people here have accomplished, but... well... (Okay! So I do! )
