So, I wanted to see if I could incorporate the Harnell console, walls, doors and ceiling hexagon in a newer version of a set...

It is indeed! I've been mulling over something similar myself of late :-)
In the cities in the streets there's a tension you can feel,
The breaking strain is fast approaching, guns and riots.
Politicians gamble and lie to save their skins,
And the press get fed the scapegoats,

OK that is utter TARDIS perfection! There was a variant of the Hartnell console doing the rounds a few years ago that was designed to be a "modern Hartnell". It eventually got built in "Second Life" under the name "Futura" and for years has been my favourite console room design. It has now been replaced ;)

Ps: Seriously am I the only one seeing Sam Winchester in these pics?
Isn't it how ironic that we have to think of solutions out of the box, in order to build our boxes a lot of the time?

expendable

It looks lovely! But it looks to me that the only walkway that connects the console platform is right in front of the doors? Sure, you can jump down and climb out of the dry moat, but I think it would be easier if there were more walkways.

Looks more like late-Pertwee to me.

That's the one! You know I got Second Life just to own one of them! I never use it much anymore, but still fun to own!
It does look very Pertweeish doesn't it? Perhaps that's where the main inspiration came from, after all wasnt the Pertwee set exactly that? A rebuild of the old set trying to modernise for the 70s?
They always marketed it as a rehash of the Hartnell though, and the exterior that came with it was a replica of the one in the pilot.

Well, speaking as the designer, or at least the interpeter: yes, it is a bit Pertweeish.

My original intent was to go right back to basics, to the original Hartnell-era room, and bring that design forward with a modern interpetation (such as replacing the hanging B&W TV set with a modern widescreen HD monitor). However, I'm also a huge fan of the room as seen in The Three Doctors, and consequently, I ended up throwing in elements of that design as well.

Unfortunately, at the time the room was built, Second Life was incapable of recreating the darkness and shadow of the original 3ds Max concept images.

I should probably make an attempt to revisit the design at some point, now that we have deferred rendering, with shadows and spotlights.

Surprised I'd managed to miss this until now, this is precisely the sort of thing I joined this forum for! Excellent work.

Wow, I really need to scroll through the forums more often.  Terrific work, truly stunning.  I'd be interested to see your take on the rest of the Hartnell TARDIS.

I do have to agree with expendable, however: there's only the one walkway, which would be a tad bit impractical in a real console room.  Though I suppose this problem could be worked around with invisible force field "bridges" or something.

End of Line
The ultimate TARDIS of ultimate destiny.  Type 1012.  Now with extra duct tape.

Stiki, this is nothing. You should watch some of the Classic Series Episodes, especially from the Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker eras. They had some stories that were loaded with recycled 'Space: 1999' consoles, as well as console props from its predecessor, 'UFO'. In fact, the Pertwee story "The Green Death" had the evil computer in what is basically 'UFO''s SHADO Moonbase Control Sphere; the evil computer's control center is so minimally altered from how the props looked on SHADO Moonbase it makes you wonder if they just used the existing set (which by that time would have been in storage for a couple of years).

Tom Baker's stories made use of both other Series' props. "Stones Of Blood" made use of 'Space: 1999' consoles, with parts of SHADO Moonbase consoles mounted on top of them. Not to mention those Pileo (a.k.a. Mezzo Pileo) floor lamps that were all over Moonbase Alpha; they were all over 'Doctor Who' sets. Even the 2010 11th Doctor console room had two of them (with green lights inside them) next to the stairs going up from the console platform.

But cobalt, as well as a few other or our master renderers, are experts at sneaking Easter Eggs into their renders to see just how much attention we're paying to their details. Some of them are so good at it that you don't even see them when you're looking for them, until someone points out the Easter Egg (and then it's "Face Palm Time" because you realize you've been looking at them all along, but just not seeing them)!
