So I am in the planning stages of my build and came to realize one important factor.
My car.
I dont own a pickup or trailer.
I am planning on using a modified Bill Rudloff 2005 design and I simply cannot fit the base in the back of my 2009 Honda Fit!
(Why must it fit in the Fit you ask, read my intro in the About the Members section)
(...it needs to be mobile to get to the venue)

I've been screen-shotting all of the various bases from the build diaries deciding on the best option for my box.
And began to wonder...
Admittedly after watching Sillysparrowness's youtube video a few times...

Has anyone ever built a 2 piece base for "field assembly" for a "full size" bluebox?
Is it possible?
Sure.
Is it practical?
Not Sure.

Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions? Precedence?

Yeah it would absolutely work.

I'd build it in 2 pieces, making sure that the joists that support the floor run in such a way that where splits/fits together you would have 2 joists.
Butt them up against each other and drill through so you can pass 2 or 3 bolts to hold the pieces together when you're putting it up.

You could hinge them so that the floor folds up, I don't know if I would want to do that though.
Depends how you're building the base and how heavy it's going to be.

I've both designed and built two-piece base before, mainly for transport reasons.  I split it across the middle from side wall to side wall (so that it looked good from the front, basically), and it was just like doing a regular floor except twice as fiddly!   I used loose pin hinges to locate mine (in the central area where you'll end up standing) and so it could fold up or be taken apart for transport.

I do't think I'd recommend it for an outside-living box due to the menace of moisture getting into all the crevices but for an indoors box, totally practical.

I also dsigned a vrsion where some legs/prongs on each part would locate into slots on the other part but it got too hard too fast...  

Good luck!    My best asdvice is to think about it vrey very carefully first, figure out exaclty what you're going to do before cutting anything.

I would suggest looking at Mad Girl's TARDIS.  Her's is made to fit into a minivan, and both the roof and base separate.

Definitely back to the drawing board for this one.
I hope to work on some designs this weekend and will share what I come up with.

But be warned, it will look like a child drew & designed it! 

Im wondering if at this point it might be easier just to buy a new pickup truck instead? HA!

Would one of you kind gentlemen be able to post a pic of your 2 piece base or a sketch of some sorts?
I am having a hard time visualizing your recommendations.

Although I think I have a concept in mind, I'm no structural engineer and the base will need to bear the weight of the structure + 2 (maybe 3) people at a time.

So any help (additional help) is appreciated!

Perhaps the question should be how small of a base do you need? What is the dimensions of the space you need it to fit into?

My current plans have the base measuring 60.5" and I don't think I will be scaling it down any.

That's about what my "unofficial" plans have too I think.
