Biodoc - if you have any more updates now's the time! Never seen an exploding board member before!! ;)

But seriously in all seriousness and in my serious voice - wow Aaron this console looks fantastic. I've been a fan of your consoles in the past but this one is on a whole new level to them, especially with that screen added :o
Isn't it how ironic that we have to think of solutions out of the box, in order to build our boxes a lot of the time?

Looking great, BioDoc! Nice to see another take on how to build one of those bus brake/clutch things. What did you use on yours? I think I recognize some of the bits, but not all of them. (And that hand-in-the-jar looks downright creepy in some of those shots!)

Well done! That hand jar blew me away it's absolutely fantastic!

Keep up the good work, and I'm sure now many of us are tending our own growing stockpiles of envy ;)

Dino, the Brake/Clutch thingmy magig (Thats a technical term :P) Its made from a power pack from a Fish Tank, a pen, a top of an old hose fitting, a plastic black bead and a screw, made from stuff in the box of odd console parts

And Im really happy with how my jar has turned out, unfortunately the camera doesnt give it justice

Now that's an interesting combination of parts, and it looks really good! So does the hand jar. (It just looks a bit creepy, but then, so did the original.)

Hi Guys, Well after debating about buying 3 Rheostats off of Ebay for £53 to modify or make one, I decided to make one, I was lucky enough to have found some half hexagonal shaped wood which was close enough. I also bought a metal bar for the struts. I used black gaffa to tape the two bits together to make the hexagonal lengths, i then cut two ends from MDF and sprayed them silver. I cut down the bar and screwed it all together. I then used a plastic wheel, a piece of dowel and a wall plug to put the hand wheel in place and mounted it on the console using L brackets. I Also got round to finally replacing the two buttresses that were made from chicken wire, and replaced it with cardboard, so they are all now finished, although the Demat Lever Buttress has warped at the bottom, so I had to Mod Roc it in the shape it is.

Anyway Pics......

I still Have a bit to do on the console, mainly the rotor and rim as all the Buttresses are finished and all but one of the panels is finished, awaiting for the two keypads I have ordered to turn up. I still have the console chair to complete and it needs a new base as the other one decided to give way the other day and some rails. Also need to attach the clear panels properly on the base board. So getting there, Id say about 75% complete now :D Have 22 Days, I think, till the event I will be displaying it at in front of 20,000 + people  :-[  :'( Im getting more and more worried about it as it gets closer.....

Anyway here are some full shots and a Photoshopped version of what it may look like at the event

Whaaaa! :o Great job, BioDoc! What else can I say other than...
Envy(tiny).jpg

(Between you and M.D. I feel so inadequate. :P ;) ;D)

Don't let the butterflies get to you. I think know she'll be a huge hit at the event.

Well a little bit more work has been done to the console. The Keypads for my panel finally turned up :D so they are now glued on and I've finished off the panel, bar the oxygen bit that sits between the two keypads. I have also been experimenting. I Picked up 3 Car sponges from the pound shop and hacked away at them in an attempt to create the rim. I've glued these to a piece of cardboard and put it in place. It looks about right and I'm planning on Mod Rocking them. If this works then thats how im going to do the rest of the rim, if not then I will go to my TARDIS, Scream and then cry....

I also drilled some holes through the tops of the buttresses and put bolts with butterfly nuts through to make  it easier to disassemble. I attempted to cover the bench seat with some faux leather upholstery, however this didnt go to well, so back to the drawing board. I may try and get a staple gun as the black tape didnt want to hold it down. I'm still trying to work out how to weigh down my scanner as it is pulling the rotor and its support at an angle.  15 days Left of building time, lets hope it gets finished!! Anyway Pics.....

Looking "Fantastic!", BioDoc! I hope that sponge idea works out for you.

As for weighing down the monitor, I presume you mean to counterweight it so it's more balanced? If M.D. doesn't object, might I suggest trying his idea of using hockey pucks on the opposite side of the monitor's "Lazy Susan" slide? The original does have those five wheels opposite the monitor and I noticed that they're missing from your console. So some hockey pucks might be just the thing to add some weight to balance out the monitor.

If you still need more counterweight than the pucks can provide, you could always try hiding some lead fishing weights/sinkers behind the pucks until you get the right balance.

I hope some of this is helpful. (And of course, my post on a 2005 console build wouldn't be complete without someEnvy(tiny).jpg)

Well Dino, My Rim Idea seems to have worked, see what you think...

You can still see the shape of the sponges a bit, but it works well enough I think :)

Fantastic! It looks just fine. (You'll probably have perfected your method for the rim that by the time you complete it, that one section will look worse to you than it will to anyone else. And if anyone complains or criticizes it, point at them with outstretched arm, shout "Rivet Counter!", and then whack them over the head with your rubber mallet! ;D)

Cheers Dino, yeah I think I will be the only one lol, although there will only be a few people who get to get close to it, so it should be ok :)

Dave, these are the Keypads I bought....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/16-4x4-Matrix-Keyboard-Keypad-Use-Key-PIC-AVR-Stamp-Sml-/400348715521?pt=UK_BOI_Electrical_Components_Supplies_ET&hash=item5d36a49a01

Theyre a good size :) I've been making a few more of the rim bits, seem to be going well, may need to get a tad more mod roc though. The event Approaches....ARGHHHH.....
