Maybe they did re-use the original Hartnell doors, but also built the new wall flat. That would explain the pointy mid (no hinge) part of the doors, and the flat areas seen on the doorframe in "Invasion of Time". (Plausible?)

Dino.
P. S. Trivial, I know: but, Tony, you're just one story off. The reappearance of the original console room was in the previous story, "The Invisible Enemy", which also introduced K-9. (No doubt K-9 would have experienced great difficulty negotiating those steps in the wooden console room, so the original console room set eliminated that problem.)

Oh, that's a photo I took a few years ago. I could measure the roundel again if that'll help with something?

Ah-ha! I was hoping someone would recognize it and speak up so the proper credit was given. And even though this might not be a roundel from the show, since it was cast from the same mould, the dimensions of the roundel proper (the part that's actually seen in the walls) would be the same. (That selvage/flange/lip - or in the model-making world "flash" - could vary from an actual show-used roundel depending on how the mould is made.)

And, Nate, I was thinking the same thing you were about that measurement of the roundel in that link; they may have been measuring total width, including that "flange", rather than just the roundel proper.

here is a first attempt at the walls.
why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.
Oh? - I'm researching the new edition.

Hi Nathan, what measurement have you got for the space between each 'column' of roundels?

warmcanofcoke

both diagrams are laid over screen captures for accuracy - rassilonsrod says the gaps between roundels are 50mm

So, like this (with the gaps being even)? nate wall.png

You bring up a very valid point .. I'll have to do some proper work on this when I'm not just fiddling during coffee breaks ... 50mm is about 2 inches (1.96").

4.5 roundels at 19.5" each is 87.75". The height on the wall is 100.39. 100.39" - 87.75" = 12.64" there are 6 sets of spaces sandwiching the roundels. 12.64" / 6 =2.10" about two inches.

The width of the wall is 94.48". 4 roundels at 19.5" each is 78". 94.48" - 78" = 16.78" ..... hmm I don't know the measurement from the roundels to the columns ... I wouldn't imaging there were more than an inch between each row of roundels. 16.78" - 3" = 13.78". divided into two = 6.89 inches on each side. ..... this is just guess work.

I guess it is always best to call yourself on your own mistakes rather than have someone else call you on them =P

this means that the measurement is .6" off.

Looking at the second row of roundels (specifically the bottom roundel.) I noticed a discrepancy. The halfway point of the bottom roundel of the second row, is 1" above the top of the half roundel directly to the left. This means that the measurement from the bottom roundel of the second row to the floor is 3" not 2". and because I like things to be uniform This would mean that the Top Roundel of the first row o the top of the panel would also be 3" not 2".

this means that the height of this wall and consequently the wall with the doors is .4" off. =P

in practicality this is less that a 1% difference in height .... but at least I was thinking about it.

The diagonal distance between roundels is 3.5"

Pretty close to the measurements for my walls :)

Have you posted these anywhere? Apologies if I've missed them  :).

Started Turning my attention to the interior Door. Found some interesting quirks.

Up until Planet of Fire the roundels on the interior door were that semi transparent fiberglass with the yellowish tint.

but the production staff repainted the roundels black for the Master.

After that the door was pulled off and the hinges were flipped around and the door opened the other way - and the roundels were painted grey.

Also in Planet of Fire we see the other side of the doors.

Note the wall around the door does not have the roundel pattern, also it looks like this side of the door is not framed by the pillars.

Sorry, there's a wall in this picture? All I can see is Nicola in a bikini... ;)

I'd never thought of Nicola Bryant as being a distraction before now - or did you mean Mr Strickson?!?  :o
