Struggling to find a decent close up of the 96 fresnel, but it strikes me that for whatever reason they used something like this:

$T2eC16RHJHgE9n0yFlKjBRVIc!TpkQ~~60_3.JPG

And instead of simply extracting the fresnel lense itself, they chopped off the top and bottom, leaving acopper ring at each end. Anyone have anymore info? Its a look I'm keen to replicate on my box, not because I like it especially, but for the sake of authenticity.

It's almost like the Smith Lamp before the New Haven was used on the current prop and without the modifications to the rods around the lamp housing.  On the left is the hero prop. In the middle is the model scaled from the hero prop. And on the right is the Smith lamp from the Pond Life minisodes last year.

Thanks Bill, very interesting. If the model is as accurate as you'd expect, it also looks like there is no dome cap on the top of the light. Since there are no overhead shots of the full size prop its hard to verify if that's really the case. Could be lighting, but again looks like the model has the lamp surround as silver rather than brass. All good food for thought...

Certainly looks like theres no dome on to of the light, been trying to find decent images to see if the main prop had one, but i think i doesn't.
Found these images which can help in a way to verify this;

But these's also this image which contradicts this entirely and was on the cover of the one of the DWM specials;

That last image shocked me for a moment! But if you look closely the whole lamp is a fresnel, not in a brass surround, it looks more like the TYJ lamp than anything, so I'd say it's not a true representation ;)
Isn't it how ironic that we have to think of solutions out of the box, in order to build our boxes a lot of the time?

the doctor who2

It did with me too, it just looks... wrong.

The plinth its sat on is too high for one thing. But the lamp just finishes it off.
To say it's DW magazine, surely they should know what the Tardis looked like.

That last image is just a bit of photoshoppery to stick to the style of the other issues. Is that lighter blue model actually the screen used one or just a really nice fan build? The only shots I've seen aside from the ones
in the Regeneration book are the pics I nabbed from the eBay auction all those years ago...

Edit: Yeah I think it's a nice fan build.

the doctor who2

I can see what you mean, i think photoshop too, the door on the right how the middle suddenly lights up for no reason and theres no shadow or light on the left hand door.
also if you look at the central door timber, look st the join between the right door at the base and that plinth.
The right door is sitting in front of the timber stop.
a bad respresentation of a decent tardis design  :-\

The cover image looks like a badly photoshopped image of the TYJ Character Option toy to me.

As for that three-quarter photo of it looking lighter in blue, I believe that's one of a set of excellent scale miniature fan builds.

the doctor who2

Thats something i didn't think about the Character toy Line, they must have found it very hard to find a full frontal shot of the box.
So found it easier to stitch a load of images together :)

Speaking of Lighter in blue, i was surprised to find this photo of the box;

*gasp* That's the best picture I've seen of it yet! And it proves it has quarter rounds on the corner posts, not flat square, as many have said over the years.

I've just checked that photo on the DWM cover against the image of the Hudolin prop on Page 25 of The TARDIS Handbook by Steve Tribe, and it's the exact same photo, right down to the way the doctor who2 describes it:

The Handbook came out in 2010. When did that issue of DWM come out? Maybe they just used the same image since they had it at hand? And as the doctor who2 also said:

Maybe Steve Tribe had the same trouble. But that Hudolin box photo in the Handbook and on the DWM cover is certainly the same one.

This Magazine Special was released February 2009.
They did a lot of these specials with the different police boxes on the front, they must be the same as the ones in the handbook.
I'm surprised they released it in the TARDIS Handbook as its an untrue representation for this era. Not good.

So they used the mag cover photo for the Handbook. Interesting.

Definitely. The two photos of this box are identical.

That's extremely very not good. And also in the Handbook, on the bottom of Page 25 there is a drawing - very small - of the Hudolin box plans, and they don't match the photo above it, but with a magnifying lens the drawing is close to what the actual prop looked like. (What happened to the QC on that one?)

I know this is an old thread, but I figured it'd be better to ask here than to create a new one.

Does anyone know the dimensions of the lamp and its housing? Unless I've missed it or something, none of the plans posted on here include them. I'm assuming the lens is either 4.5" or 5" tall, with a 5" or 5.5" diameter. I can't tell for sure though, and I don't have much of a clue in regards to the interior housing.
