Ah, West Brompton station. Yes, I know it well :)

Interetsing to know there was a box there.
In the cities in the streets there's a tension you can feel,
The breaking strain is fast approaching, guns and riots.
Politicians gamble and lie to save their skins,
And the press get fed the scapegoats,
Public Enema Number One.

A few cheeky pics taken through the windows in 2011.

Wonderful details! Thanks!

Is that a urinal?!

Its a little sink for washing hands.
(if it were a urinal, the copper would have to have long legs to reach, would bang his head on the ceiling, and not mind flashing hit truncheon as its also at window level, mounted on an inside corner between two windows)
;D ;D

The Long Leg of the Law? .... I don't think it would be a good idea to pee in the same place you eat lunch and make reports ..... I seem to remember a similar colloquial wisdom spoken when I was younger ....
why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.
Oh? - I'm researching the new edition.

Heh.  That said, I'd like to talk to the designer and see if it was mounted that high on the wall for that very reason.  If it were waist height, it might very well be a handwash station, but a lazy bobby with an urgent need might have other uses for it if it were at waist height.

If I were a cop I think I'd have to go in a soda bottle or other disposable container and then dump it down the sink just to be contrary.
"My dear Litefoot, I've got a lantern and a pair of waders, and possibly the most fearsome piece of hand artillery in all England. What could possibly go wrong?"
-The Doctor.

Ah you're all so sweet!  No, he'd just walk 10 feet away to Earls Court tube station and use their toilet.  Either that or he'd pop into a nearby MacDonalds/Burger King.

kiwidoc

Maybe useful for eye-washing in event of gas use or something, and of course still available for other uses as needed?

Hi All,
Not sure if this is the right bit to post this one, but a friend was working in Earls Court area today and drove past this and sent me a pic.

When you zoom in, looks like it has a no smoking sign on the side, never saw The Doctor with one of those on his Tardis.  ;D

Cheers

Love this box! Heard on the news a couple of days ago they are planning on bringing police boxes back!? (again)

However, I doubt they would bear any resemblance at all to the original design :-(

Kingpin

They'd probably end up being closer to a 21st century version of the Police Posts.

And of course the Earl's Court box got an honourary mention in "The Bells of Saint John" with it being mistaken for the tardis.
"Does he still have that rubbish beard?"

Has it had a repaint? I'm getting definite vibes of Mark of the Rani :-)  (was that TYJ 1 or 2?)

The MK2 didn't come into being until Trial of a Time Lord, so it was the MK1 in Mark of the Rani.
