I don't think that link is working.  Instead try it as a regular URL or download the image from the Facebook page and upload it here with a tieback URL.

Honorarydoctor has posted this on another forum and I've asked him if I could transcribe it here, as I did with the TVM Console Restoration. Once I hear from him (hopefully with his "Okay"), I'll post what he's got, and the link to his original post. (This one is a short one so it won't take up the room the Restoration article did.)

Okay, Everyone: Bob has given me the "Okay" to transcribe his post on the TV Movie toolkit bag. It's not a long post, but it is a nice one. You can also read the original at the link (as well as other comments that people have made on it).

So a nice little addendum to this project:

Paul (the current owner of the TVM console) hit it off with Philip Segal who produced the Doctor Who TVM in '96. Phil after seeing the console nicely restored and cared for decided to invite Paul over recently to bequeath some other TVM items for safe keeping as he was about to move house. Paul received a signed script book, a chess set, an original post/staff from the Eye of harmony set - the same one used by McGann and Roberts during the final battle! and most importantly - the Doctor's Toolkit Bag! As a bonus a number of the tool props were STILL inside including the original TVM SONIC SCREWDRIVER! How cool is that! Paul is over the moon to have these.

There are talks now of bringing the Console back to Gallifrey One in 2013 (With a moving rotor this time) and if it happens, these will certainly be on display as well.

Old friend Purple gave his two cents about this sonic, and he discovered that it is in fact an 800-TREKKER sonic from the early 1990's (much like the TARDIS keys they sold also, which were used in the TVM).  The actual telescopic prop was made to match this, with the exception of it had a gold/brass band around the top of the bottom section.  This may have been used as a static stunt prop, but I seem to remember there was a wooden one used, which you see Chang Lee with when he takes stuff out the bag of the Doctor's belongings.  Can either of the TVM console chaps confirm if the prop is static?  And to anyone who has an 800-TREKKER sonic, with a little paint, you can have a TVM sonic. :D

So I finally had a chance to see the 8th doctor toolkit last night in the middle of a whirlwind LA tour including a charity event for David Hasselhoff and dropping off some film to loan the American Cinematheque for a BAFTA 50th anniversary of James Bond screening of "Tomorrow Never Dies" next Friday with one of my cars.

The tools are all (except for the storebought sonic) hand turned 6061 aluminum heavily scuffed and weathered with black wash.  There are a couple of brass discs here and there but most of it is either raw aluminum or found objects like pen caps, just like the toolkit I threw together to hide the power supplies on the base of the 8th doctor console.

It made me feel very nice to see that the "Optic Pocketknife" prop I designed for the Inspector Spacetime webseries looks much cleaner in close up than the screen used Who originals...

Brian, would it be possible to get some basic measurements of the toolkit? Just length, width, and max height would be enough, and great info for the reference section.

As I don't have any batteries for my camera at the moment, I've just had to trawl through all my recovered photos (HD crash just before Christmas - long story) and this is the only clear shot of mine that I've found:

Hopefully it's enough for now, but you'll get the general idea from it.

I believe it to be a metal file case, manufactured by Helix.

Here's what looks like one on eBay...

So because eBay will one day no longer host that image here is the item from the above post:

I just noticed this thread doesn't have many clear images of the 1980s Tool Kit Prop.

Woo to the 80s toolbox.

I've met one of these boxes in the past. Lovely strong and heavy case, so I can sympathise with Waterhouse when Davison whacks that into his chest in "Earthshock"

With actual measurements from markanthonyquested's ebay link above (and a little help from the "Doctor Who Technical Manual" ca. 1980s) we should be able to extrapolate the dimensions of the "add-on" boxes/compartments that are on the Toolkit, but not on the file case. The Toolkit looks like it has these on each side, front, back, and those three on the inside of the top. I don't know if the ones on the sides (or the back) open for anything, but those on the inside of the top (see the "Mawdryn Undead" images) look like they've got seams on them. Those could be either for show, or they could be the access to the electrics that power the three green lights on the top of the case ("Twin Dliemma", first photo).

I found some reference images on the net we might be able to divine some dimensions off of.

I wonder if there might be some information at the Helix website? Sometimes you can download old manuals or those little sheets of paper that tell you how to operate an object that is usually obvious.

I just noticed something.
inside the tool kit there looks to be a black drawer with a chrome handle.
