Aha, so you're the one!  Been raiding those archives in Zambia again?

By all accounts Wheel ep. 1 would have been a good one for TARDIS prop details.  The telesnaps on the BBC site show a nice close-up of  circuitry in the console plinth (with mercury leaking out?), and I wonder how much of the inside of the police box prop we saw after the Doctor made the control room vanish (no telesnap for that bit, sadly).

Also, I remember reading Ian MacLachlan's recollections of watching this story.  He said the Doctor and Jamie used the TARDIS back doors to escape in part one, but the telesnaps - while not totally conclusive - don't seem to support that.

Is "Wheel" being released on DVD with the missing parts reconstructed with animated parts like they did with "The Invasion" parts 1 and 4? (Or has it already been released?)

Or were you watching the Troughton Years' missing episodes DVDs where they have only the bits on hand?

I suspect there are too many missing episodes to do that. You might find it happens with Moonbase/ Ice Warriors/ The Crusades/ Underwater Menace (2 or more existing + 2 missing). But I wouldn't hold my breath... Sadly...

Here are a couple of decent shots from The Mutants showing the top of the prop, and especially the lamp.

I think in some earlier shows the round cap on top of the lamp appeared white - here it is painted black to match the rest of the housing.
In the first picture you can also see a bracket on the side wall of the prop (holding the roof in place?)

I noticed the other day that by "Death to the Daleks", the bubble top of the lamp had gone.

oookay interesting. I thought of coming here now *long time no see* as I stuck in my building process thinking about the details of the lamphouse. I see it as a sport to try make mine look like one of the oldest Tardis'es from the 60s...but my lamp doesnt look like this at all....and gosh what the roof looks flat....

The roof isn't completely flat, but it was the flattest roof of any model TARDIS in the entire series. You can see from the angle of lighting and how the lighter and darker areas of the roof show that it is ever so slightly pitched (using the bottom photo above for reference). And of course the trapezoidal panels are visible on the roof; if it was flat you wouldn't see those, or any difference in the lighted areas from the lighting's angle.

Strictly speaking, the Barry Newbery box had the flattest roof, although once again, not completely flat...

Ah... After looking back through all of the reference photos, including some of the head-on comparison "line-ups", I stand corrected. (Admittedly not a huge fan of the Newbery I never paid that much attention to its roof. ) The Newbery does indeed have a flatter roof than the Brachacki-Modified. They're very close, but I guess you could put it as the Brachacki-Modified is "nearly-flat", and the Newbery is "really-almost-nearly-flat".

Been having a think about some of the refurbishment of the prop during the 1966 refit, and below is my theory about the doors in particular.
The script required a lock on the right door, and rather than I originally thought - that they drilled a new hole on the right door and switched the lock - I think all they did was rehang the doors upside down, sawed off the section of door that was behind the stepped edge detail over the doors, removed the centre divide and replaced it on the original right door, so the lock now appears in the correct place. This would also account for the use of the clover restraints, as the door was now too short  to be held in place by the stepped edge detail above the doors. The original window frames must have been either lost or damaged due to this work and were replaced by new, slightly thicker set frames with no sill detail. This also explains why the doors now don't match up to the side walls as the first cross bar above the windows is more like 3 3/4" rather that 3". Also the bottom cross bar on the door is now more like 2 3/4".

I've had a look at the screengrabs that I have and admittedly it is a difficult period to pin down such details (what with all the missing episodes)...

But I have found an image from The Dominators (and taken a screen grab of the same shot from the episode). It looks like you can see the remains
of the St John's Ambulance badge (or at least some markings left behind from when it was removed).
