Great find Pete!

Nice to see some final proof on the whole Mark III debate, and also that if this Box ever was on the east side of the bridge it was likely before the 1933 widening project. The fact that it isn't in this spot on the west side in the 1933 construction photo even though only the east side was affected does lend some support to the theory it was moved to this side because of the widening.

Am I seeing something that ain't there OR is this proof the box was situated on the east side sometime in the 1950's?

I look at the photo and i believe we are seeing the later box on the west side.
The window configuration certainly points to that design IMHO.
Looking at the eastern side, I believe we see what looks to be an RAC or AA box next to the all and fence, and a curious rectangular shape set back to where the steps down to the river are located, but there does not seem to be any detailing (windows or panels) on the surface of it. I really don't think its a PCB located on the eastern side in this photo. (again, IMHO)

Would it be useful to try and replicate some of these photos when I'm in the area next?

Possibly, though I do feel any structures of interest in the photo would be long since gone.
That said, Google Maps is a good way of instantly checking locations too.

The bridge structure is all the same, at least. They just widened it at some stage.
