Its probably no different to how the mechanism for the other exhibitions had been working. Somewhere in my posts is a pic of the blackpool console innards.

My guess would be some kind of power rail...perhaps?

It's not a very English power rail though... Or at least it's not a standard UK variety. Not sure what other alternatives there would have been in in 1983 - though I have seen a few since...

The monitors are actually in place then, I thought they were just plastic inserts.
Do they still work? If they were operating it would complete the look of that console.

There were actually only two working monitors on the console during the Series. The third monitor, which was on the panel that we never really got a full-on look at, had a "dummy" blank "monitor box" installed; it didn't even have an opening cut in it for a fake monitor:

Here's an image of that panel at an extreme angle, but you can see there is no monitor in that housing, probably because that panel always faced the back wall and wasn't even this fully on screen too often. Also notice the "blank" circle next to that monitor housing in the above screen grab; even that didn't warrant so much as a blinky light. (I think this image is from "Attack of the Cybermen" - notice the open roundel the Doctor had been fiddling with in that story.)

Was it Mike Tucker who built this version of the five doctors console for the Doctor Who Experience. It would be nice to see the red parts inside the time rotor reinstated like the original that Mike Kelt built for the five doctors all those years ago in the eighties.

It's the original from The Five Doctors, not a reproduction.

It appears that the red bulbs haven't been in play since the rotor's last televised appearance in 1993, in Dimensions in Time... and they weren't restored for it's 2002 appearance at Panopticon, based on some of the other period photographs posted in this topic: http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=4223.msg48530#msgx48530

Oh I thought its a replica of the original that was made specially for the Doctor Who Experience. I had heard that the original was with a chap called Andrew Beech and it looks little different here and there in comparison to how it looked in the Five Doctors.

One of my favourites out of all the Tardis consoles and it looks fantastic and brand new. They have restored and maintained it very well.

Andrew Beech is still the (partial) owner of the 5 Doctors Console.  Mike Tucker and his crew worked to try and refurbish the console for the London Experience.  Some of the buttons and switches got replaced either with similar ones or completely different ones (as I pointed out in a different section).  I think two of the panels had been remade from scratch way back in the early 1990's as the originals were too far damaged to be salvaged.

Photos by Shawn Levy. He recently went to the revamped Doctor Who Experience where the Five Docs console display appears to have placed the sequence of the panels back into their proper order.

And they've even kept the "dummy" monitor on the panel that always faced the back wall (and was only glimpsed in one of the Colin Baker stories; I want to say it was "Attack of the Cybermen" - the same story where the Doctor fiddled with the Chameleon Circuit - but I'm not sure on that).

They did a great job restoring this console and she looks great (even though she's not high on my list of favorites).

For a tv prop that has lasted 30 years plus, she is looking mighty fine.

Someone might be able to answer with regard the red lights, why couldn't some red lighting gels have been used to replicate the red lights?

I'm sure such a simple solution of wrapping the gel around and taping it with sellotape would have been done unless there was a practicle reason not to?

Can't be a heat thing as the lamps are on/off and the lighting gels are designed to work with lamps of stupid wattage.
