I really do hope it doesent get destroyed as the box could still be put to great use with the police and members of the public as well. Its such a lovely box and such a treat for us Doctor Who/Tardis fans. Honestly cant they leave anything alone these days without it getting tampered with or destroyed.

Great visual reference... if only we had that kind of technology when the original Metropolitan boxes graced London's streets, least now if the box is removed, there'll still be reference of it's interior available.

I was there in June last year and took a few pictures through the window and it appears to be still exactly the same inside apart from a few bits of misc junk like some bags and a traffic cone.   Was actually quite a surprise to see that the inside reflected pretty much what a classic box was used for.

Not sure as regard the Earls Court box and indeed Met Police policy or procedure, but the Sheffield Police box actually contained some fairly restricted information which was hung on the walls, left on the desk etc just the same as the Earls Court box.

Now when I say this I don't mean for one minute that this information was critical to the well being of the nation, but it was certainly marked "Restricted" which means it was only for police eyes.

The major difference was that the Sheffield box cannot be viewed from outside ie through the windows. Wonder what all that paperwork relates to in the Earls Court box.....

I believe (hope) that reports of the Earls Court box's demise are exaggerated, as the old saying goes.

I passed through Earl's Court on my way to the Experience earlier today and I stopped by the box, taking a look around to see what notices were posted.  On one of the lampposts was a notice covering the conversion of one of the shop units, whilst there was a notice fixed to the railing concerning the current initiative to reduce/remove guard railings throughout the city (Piccadilly Circus is one significant example of this), I'm hoping this was the notice that Peter saw.

I am planning to build a model of this box (one day...honest!), and I've just found out I'm on a training course in London in August, so I thought I could pop along and try and get some photos of the top of the roof. 

Checking Google Maps for directions, I find that they've already done the roof, thanks to the height of the GoogleVan camera!

Why did they blur our the one police Box sign and not the other?  Why bother with it since it's not a name of a company or anything.  Silly Google.

The blurring is not done by people, but by software that looks for things that look like they might be faces or license plates:

Looks like one of the police box signs triggered a match, but not the other.

It sometimes blurs faces on bill boards as well, to protect their privacy...

Though you can ask to have your whole house removed, i did this because the picture showed the house when it was empty with a fridge in the front garden

It's like a spooky poignant time-capsule in some ways.  Several roads still show people shopping in Woolworths!

Per The Met List, no Box was on that Site.

The closest appears to have been about 2000 feet away, down Earl's Court to Old Brompton Road and hang a right - outside the entrance to the West Brompton Underground Station instead of the Earl's Court Station.
