I went to see the Kent police box  :)

But the first thing I saw was this  :o a horse drawn TARDIS?

Then I saw the Police Box in all it's concretey glory - It looked so lovely

It had a bakelite phone (with dial?)

I wasn't sure if my TARDIS key would fit a real police box (but luckily it did so I managed to get home before I'd left).

Lovely weather and I felt all humble leaning against it....

Good afternoon everyone,
I am so pleased that our latest acquisition has caused so much interest, and yes, many of you have made yourselves known to me when you come and see us, (me and the police box).

This box came from St. Enoch Square in Glasgow. regards, Ward

I remember the box when it was at st Enoch square it disappeared during the early nineties .now a metal box sits there on the same spot it looks like a giant salt shaker.
But it was just a police box !

Took my boy on a trip to see this box yesterday, but I got to say the poor girl need's some TLC  :'(
The paint work has faded & the windows have running rust, but of more concern was the roof!
Please excuse the pic of me posing & trying to look cool, I just look like an utter tit! But I left the pic in as it shows the rust problem  ::)
On a side note, these were taken with an iPhone 4S, and i'm pretty pleased with the results.

Yes... it's a shame that this Police Box is looking so neglected. I seem to remember the Crich Tramway Museum suffering in the same way - something called concrete cancer. It cost a fortune to repair. Weren't members of this group involved in fund-raising to help pay for the repairs?
By the way, you don't look a t*t and the pictures are great!

Mark

Oh dear, it's not looking too well is it. And what happened to that corner post cap on the back of the box (last photo)?

Your "poser picture" looks as though it could be an album cover, sure I've seen similar!

policeboxnut

That's bad; I remember going to see it in 08 and I thought it looked fabulous then, but it's a shadow of its former self now.

What a shame. Only four years into its stay, too. I wonder if they will do anything about it?

I know, it was quite a shock actually as I'd only seen the pictures of it on here all newly installed & freshly painted  :(

And cheers Tony & Mark for the positive comment's regarding my "poser shot"  ;D

EDIT: Just noticed on the picture of my boy trying the door, there is a large chunk missing from the base on the left! Looks like fresh damage too  :'(

Somebody might want to talk to Mr Plodd about the box's condition deteriorating after only 4 1/2 years after it was installed.  And yes, there is damage to the base and also to the back right corner post and sign box.  Almost like a tall vehicle or machine grazed it and knocked off the corners.

P.S. I has occurred to me that since this is by the sea, it will have a more corrosive effect on the box because of the salt and humidity in the air.  The box seems to have not been prepared to be in that seaside environment.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe the river at Chatham Dock's is freshwater?!

EDIT: Ignore me, I'm talking crap! It's salt water. So yes, the box need's some form of protection from the salt!

I live not far from Chatham Dockyards and have been meaning to view this Police Box.

If the Dockyard museum curators are looking for volunteers, I'd be happy to help in it's restoration.

Has anybody approached the museum curators about restoration?
Yours aye!

Well, took a another visit to this box a couple of weeks ago and am pleased to report she's had a bit of TLC and a fresh (different shade) paint job!  ;D
