This has been the most challenging model I've ever made, but it has been fun, and I've learnt a lot about motors, electronics, Ohms Law, etc etc!

The lamp/candlestick/vase thing (does anyone know WHAT this actually was?) was turned in wood by a talented wood-turning friend.
It then had gold coloured leaf rather badly attached to it by me, but it works quite nicely in the set.

I've always assumed it to be a very large brass vase.

Very nice indeed. The - and I merely quote - "badly attached" gold leaf helps the effect, as it mimics the fine inlaid patterns of the original.
