Why a TARDIS shower you ask?

Well no one has asked but I'm sure you're thinking it. Why not, it's fun to do something outside you normally always have to do inside.

Haven't you ever finished up some yard work or a run and thought how nice it would be to get clean or sweat free before you step into your clean and/or semi-clean house?
Plus it's a little sentimental for me. Almost every rental house on the North Carolina coast has an outdoor shower and It reminds me off all the great beach trips I've taken with my family both as a child and a parent.

There are lots of reasons the family might use it. Like after yard work, running, mountain biking, boating, fishing, kayaking or soccer practice. So between all that and our niece and nephew having a ball playing in it, I'm sure the whole family will put our TARDIS to some serious use.

I mean what's the point of having an awesome thing like a TARDIS if it's going to just sit there without a good excuse to go inside?

Supplies II.jpg

Garage full of supplies. All treated lumber to last outdoors and function as a shower.

We are using the basic dimensions of the Brachaki Prop.

First Panel up temporarily. Really starting to look like a TARDIS!

Top Frame II.jpg

We are ordering an aluminum roof with a 2" pitch so we are working on the top frame to get the right dimensions for the fabricator.
We could have gone with steel but chose to save a little and get aluminum. It should still last for a long long time.

Window measurements II.jpg

Window Measurements. Not an easy feat for someone who took "Math for the Liberal Arts Student" in college.

We're also not going exactly by the plan here since the windows will be screen not glass and we had to allow for the casements to cover the raw plywood edge. But it's done and we should be able to use this one as a template for the other seven!

Looking good!  It may be too late to mention this, but your center stiles of your sides are a bit narrow for the Bracacki.  You would need to add about an inch or two to it to compensate for the width of the central divider.  There are a couple of ways to fix this, but it's up to you if you want to at this stage and can live with narrow width center stiles.  Will you be putting a special lining on the inside like on indoor showers?  Keep it coming!

This has got to be the most unique approach to building a TARDIS that I've ever seen! (It certainly looks like it will be extremely solid.) It looks fabulous so far. Will you have the light on top flashing when the shower is in use (taking the place of the "Occupied" sign)?

Thanks for the advice. We checked the plans and you're right. It's not too late and Hubby is not going to be happy unless we fix it so that means I loose all my window measurements. Oh well.

And no special lining for the shower. Most outside showers around here are just treated wood.

At least they are penciled in and not already cut out.  Still, there is another method that could be done to save your window measurements.

Since only one panel was up temporary we are planning on ripping down the sides and making the middle two pieces at the right width. Also priming that section of plywood to cover the old marks. What's the other method?

Similar to what you were going to do.  Cut the side in half and use a thick piece of wood the width of the center divider that stands proud of the two halves and biscuit and glue them together.

New panel I Small.jpg
Panels and window measurements where re-done and the windows cut out. It's only up temporarily but I love the way it looks so far.

I know what you're thinking. "Why in the heck are the bottom panels cut out!?!?"

That's where the shower part of a TARDIS Shower comes in. The point of an outdoor shower is for it to feel open and like it's outdoors so the bottom panels on all sides except the door will be a dark screen to make it fell more open.

Ah, looks much better.
