Recently I was listening to the new Shada audio book read by Lala Ward, and realized that there were no reference images of Professor Chronotis's Tardis Console on the Forum. So here are some reference photos for those who wish to recreate this console.

why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.
Oh? - I'm researching the new edition.

It definitely lacks the sophistication and class of the standard central console.

Well, this was allegedly supposed to have been one of the last Type-39 TARDISes built, so naturally its controls don't have the grace of a Type-40. ;) Were these taken from the old VHS release of the work that was completed (with the missing bits filled in through stills and narration by Tom Baker)? Or are these from a DVD release of the VHS version?

yes it was taken from VHS ;)

I don't think it is out on DVD yet.

Personaly I always suspected this was the last type 18 tardis.  :P

Now I'll have to do more research. I've got the "Shada" VHS, but no more VHS player. It's been years since I've seen it, but I thought Professor Chronotis mentioned his TARDIS was a Type-39. (I could be wrong about that since it's been so long, hence the needed research.)

I'll get back with that one unless someone else beats me to it.

What always gets me about Shada is the fact that the Doctor's Tardis is inside Chronotis' Tardis. I thought this was a big no no - especially after the goings on in Logopolis ;D

They also did this in the 3rd Doctor story "The Time Monster" where the Doctor tried materializing his TARDIS around the Master's to immobilise it. And when he did, he found that (like in "Logopolis") the two TARDISes had materialised around each other.

Since this didn't happen in "Shada", my guess would be that one TARDIS could materialise inside another if the Timelords synced their TARDISes, meaning that one wanted to visit the other, and the other was willing to let the visiting TARDIS in. (Sort of like you visiting someone's house and that someone opening their garage door so you could pull your car into it.)

In the "Time Monster" the Master wasn't aware that the Doctor was about to materialise around his TARDIS, and "Logopolis" the Doctor wasn't aware that he was materialising around the Master's. So in both cases no "syncing" took place and you got the "inside each other" effect.

found some handles on Amazon that look like the Leavers on this console.

This design really came down to budget. I would think that an older, more primitive TARDIS would have a larger control console as a lot of functions would be more manual. If you look at a first generation cell phone versus today's technology things tend to get smaller, with less controls. The reason being a lot of manual functions get automated in newer versions to streamline design. That's why the new sonic screwdriver is a little strange... although you could make the argument that it probably is bigger than the previous one because it has a lot more features. At any rate I kind of like this console.

Just watched the old vhs of Shada, quite fun to watch, but I can't stand the Keff McCulloch soundtrack.
The only things spoken about Chronotis Tardis, are that he shouldnt have it because he retired (From the Time Lords!?!), and that it is his room.

Interestingly enough, when it is seen flying through the vortex, we only see an exterior wall of the building.
I wonder if we would have seen a corridor wall, if we had seen the other side.
Brachacki, Newbury, Yardley-Jones, Hudolin and Richmond.
To everyone else they are just names.

Tom's narration refers to it as (something like):

"The Professor's TARDIS, now in it's usual form of a door..."

So it does seem (I'd have to look in my script book that came with the VHS, unfortunately it is still in Finland - I am in Vienna) to be an FX mistake. I've recently looked online to see if anyone has made a PDF of this book but to no avail...

Just an update, if no-one is aware, Shada is now available on DVD, I got it a couple of months back & was watching it again (for the third time) yesterday & took screen snaps of a lot of bits. e.g. the book, Tardis controls, Krarg, & Skagra, (going to do a figure conversion of him in his white/silver outfit).

I thought some "hard core Doctor Who fans" would have it by now, I was going to post some pics up of it till I found this.  :D
All Good. Nice snaps by the way Nate. :)
