Has anyone come across a way to make the tardis lamp blink on and off with one flick of a switch?

I'd be running on 120V.

Well, I do have one of those garden lanterns of the type that was used in the first NST.  I ordered it, and them my wife confiscated it and put it on the front porch!  She doesn't want it anymore cause it rusted, so I can steal it back and try the lamp flasher out in it.  I'll try to make a video tomorrow, but it will probably have to be an indoor video.  No time to move the TARDIS outside until maybe this weekend.

Howdy y'all...

I hd a couple of questions regarding light fixtures, and thought someone might well have the answer I need!  ???

What is the type of bulb used on the old series box, that seems to "warm up" and "cool down", rather than just flip on and off...
If that type of bulb isn't comercially available (within a good price range), is there something I could do (besides a dimmer switch) that would have the same effect?  Really I'd like to have it flash at the same time the demat. sound plays (see below), which I'm thinking requires a circuit board type deal, which is far, far beyond my tiny little mind...

Also - has anyone rigged up a sound system for the demat. sound - if so - any advice about speaker position and where to aim it?  I thought about placing one facing down into the box, but the volume needed to hear it from outside would deafen anyone inside...

Thanks muchly - glad to have found this group!!  :D

To get the effect of the fade up/down on the lamp, I used a long bulb that had a long filiment. The longer the filiment, the longer it takes to get up to speed and the slower it cools down. Also, a really good fresnel pattern on the glass really makes a difference because you can almost get a star-burst effect if in the right environment.

My speakers are car speakers mounted in the roof with holes drilled in the roof. It's meant to be an inside box for product display and conventions, so that may not work for you.

Hi There, any good ideas for a flashing lamp, preferably one where the lamp flash can be regulated? Mains or 12v DC?

Any ideas are welcome.

Chris,
Can you give us a link to those? I'd like to see if we have something like that here in the states.

Thought you may like to know that The Quality Save Stores are selling a Light Unit that flashes  1 pulse per second up to a full stroboscope effect. (and any point in between)  :o

It contains two High Power white LED's with a  reflector built in to its plastic case. Powered by 4 AA batteries. Comes with a mounting bracket.  8-)

Maybe ideal to power Lamp on Tardis Roof or other such application?
Cost is only £1.99!!  :P

Perhaps dismantling it and removing the electronics maybe an option to get it to fit were you wish?

Pod's using a 12V car turn indicator flasher. Not sure what he's using for a power supply though.

My Maplin 12v Flasher which I have now got to work, pales in to insignificance.

Where do we get the info and parts from?
I hope you are succesful majorjOnny let us know as soon as you get any info..

GreyDave is a member, but over at TARDIS Rebuilders.  I'm not sure if he came to this board or not.

For those of us on the GB side of the pond, there's this:
http://www.quasarelectronics.com/3064-120-second-message-recorder-isd25120-chipcorder-ic.htm

It's pretty much the same thing but you have to convert it to use line-in recording (i.e. but your own socket).

You can then use it with this amplifyer
http://www.quasarelectronics.com/3017-lm386-mono-audio-amplifier-module.htm or a suitable Velleman kit.

There's also a Velleman Sound-to-light kit (http://www.quasarelectronics.com/velleman/mk103-sound-to-light-kit.htm) but it only runs on 9v DC..

If you're like me and prefer the steady flashing light then there's this kit.
http://www.quasarelectronics.com/smart-kit/1128-power-flasher-12vdc.htm
It works off of 12v DC too which is probably better.

There's probably much better options out there but this is what I was able to find in the internet during my break.

Hope this is of help.
