Hi, I'm new to this site, but I thought I'd share my build (that has been taking a while). As you may have guessed from the title of the thread, it's K9. I've been building it from half inch plywood and aluminium.

The neck is wrong, and I'd appreciate any advice on a cheap (as I have very little money :( ) product to use. Also, some advice on the ears would be very useful as I don't know where to start on those.

The head is made from aluminium by one of my mates' father-in-law, which I think he's made a marvellous job on.

Any comments would be gratefully received. And if anyone wants any more info, please just ask.

I know it's no where near the standard that you guys do here, but I still enjoy it, and have got plans to build a police box and a Dalek at some stage (although the wife sys she'll leave me if I build a Dalek)

As this is my first post here I:
1)   Hope I've posted in the correct area
2)   Hope I've not broken any rules

I coudn't resist making a K9 or two (or more) for myself on our rapid prototype machine. These are only 40 or so mm long but they are still fun to have around.

Might I suggest, if it isn't what you already used, a short piece of dryer exhaust hose for the neck.
BTW your K9 is looking great!

Those look really cool. I did start to make a half size K9, but thought I might as well make a fullsize one, and that was 3 years ago ;D. and still have not finished.

I presume you mean from a tumble dryer. That's what I have used, but it seems a little on the small size.

Thank you. Seems like most people use fibreglass, but I have no experience in using that stuff, and it scares me to think about using it. Wood, on the other hand, is something I like working with, so hence the plywood K9.

Thank you for your kind words.

I will post updates, but it has been in the condition you see it for about two years. "What stopped me doing more?" I hear you cry, well we had another child, who is now two. So I have one eight year old and one two year old...... Now finding time sigh! But I am determined to do some more this year. Only the head is Aluminium, the rest will be painted.

Now we've amalgumated, is there anyone who can give me advice on my build. In particular, the ears. Any other advice would be gratefully received.

Do I see plans for the top control panel in the 4th picture? I don't suppose you could post them up on here? (That's the bit I had the most trouble with) EVen though mine was only cardboard. We burned it because I was going to make a better one...
...as if that's going to happen any time soon! Why am I not motivated...

Anyway
Really cool K9! I wish I could make one like that!

slidin_sidewayz

I built myself some ears using copper tubing from air conditioner sensing tubes as the surrounds and for the loops and steel rods for the shafts. The copper tubing is slightly smaller than the rod which looks nice and is comparatively easy to bend. I bought a cheap pen holder for the backing. Unfortunately the mesh isn't solderable so I had to make little loops of copper wire to attach it to the surrounds. It all soldered together well. I'm mostly happy with the results. Any other successful methods out there?
(Apologies for the phone pic quality)

Now I need a body and head to attach them to!

Thanks for that slidin_sidewayz , very useful. I'll try that.

They are plans for the control panel AtomsInTime, but I took those photo's a long time ago, and I don't know where they are or where I got them from.
