From those excellent photos, that looks to me like graphite rubbed overtop of blue paint.

Your photos are a revelation! I've been fiddling around with the idea that we've had the corner post dimensions all wrong. It's true! While they do appear to be 6.5" wide, the corner rounds are probably 1" radii instead of .75" (the figure that's probable on the Brachaki box). This makes the front surface on the posts 4" wide instead of 4.5". The inner flats on the corner posts look reinforced for the door hinges, which thickens them .125".

The person that did the restoration is a member here called Timerotor (Mark) I believe he used the same technique that the BBC props guys utilised - boot polish!

That's the lot of them I'm afraid, for now at any rate (however that isn't ruling out a third and final trip before the Exhibition moves, in case they've had any more props from the remainder of series 6 arrive).
