Bought the box set of Crime Traveller a few years ago, and only just got round to unwrapping the cellophane from the last two discs.  This evening we watched Episode 6 - "Death Minister"

Slade visits a suspect who runs a failing business renovating old phone boxes.  Primarily red ones, but look what he's got on top of his filing cabinet in the office.

And who's this, peeping round the corner?

Listen for the running theme in the background... dumba-de-dum, dumba-de-dum...

I didn't notice that.  I'll fire up the scene and have a listen.

Interesting hodge-podge of a box.  Pre-Yardley-Jones roof sign and a nicely-stacked roof.  Horrible blue lamp though.  I wonder where they got it from?

Model on the filing cabinet totally different though.

My wife thinks I'm so sad for noticing these things!

(mind you, not as sad as someone replying to this thread at 3:20 am!)

I remember this episode, made me smile when I saw it and the nod to the theme tune during the main character's POV shot of the Police Box was a great touch.

The model Police Box is a Holdcourt (?) telephone, like the red phone box next to it and the Police Box prop is the one that was used on that documentary; 30 Years in the TARDIS.  Though it's got the spare roof on it.  Speaking of the roof, this was on eBay earlier this year - minus the novelty rotating Police lamp.

The beauty of Crime Traveller being a BBC production, being able to include such a lovely (and shameless at the same time) reference to Doctor Who.

In the cities in the streets there's a tension you can feel,
The breaking strain is fast approaching, guns and riots.
Politicians gamble and lie to save their skins,
And the press get fed the scapegoats,
Public Enema Number One.

I quite like the cue from the Doctor Who theme tune when the scene cuts to the shot with the Police Box.  @ about 4:25

Those with keen eyes will also spot the episode's second connection to Doctor Who in the familiar face of Ken Bones, better known as General Kenossium.

Thanks to that link I just started (re)watching these for the first time since they were on TV! I remember really liking it at the time (I'm guessing a lot of Who fans did) and although the style seems a little dated it still looks good. Interesting to wonder, if Doctor Who had been on during the nineties, whether it would have had similar production values? The lighting effect for the time-travel almost reminds me of the McGann movie.

It holds up as well as the early series of Midsomer Murders, Bugs or NCIS... The phones, fashion, TVs and haircuts at a little dated, but not detrimentally so.

It was nice getting to see the series again, though upon review, the title sequence doesn't sell it as well as it could've.

Just Watched episode 2 and spotted Mary Tamm!
