OK, like many of you, this key has been giving me fits. Is it symmetrical front to back? Is it one sided? And just WHAT is with the design in the triangle?

A recent 'discussion' on another board, and the release of a fifth picture of the key thanks to one hitting the auction block sent me back to the ol' drawing board trying to discern this detail.

I may have done it...

Here are the five key pics we all know and loath.

SU.jpg

After drawing pattern after pattern over these images, everything from the typical "beads on strings' to the 'circuit design' even a few abstract deals...none of 'em were worth a darn.

Then something caught my eye. The fourth image (second from right) was markedly different from the others in that area.

For the curious, it's this photo;
1.jpg

Upon inspection I see what appears to be three wires stacked & fanned out with a wire wrapped around & through them. No pattern at ALL!

The Blue is the wire I'm seeing.

OK guys, tell me what you think? Am I nuts? Have I just been looking at fuzzy pictures for too long.

Shoot...I forgot to upscale those last two images, here they are.

Nicely done. It's a strong possibility... There is also a pic of it on http://doctorwhoprops.com/props.php where it looks bronze!

I think a few people have taken shots of the keys from the experience, but I get the feeling that most of the stuff in that cabinet were very nice replicas. Though
some items did say they were 'on loan'...

From the description of how this key was moulded (as stated on the doctorwhoprops.com page), those wire-looking bits may just be carvings to add detail. Imperfections in either the moulding or carving (or casting) could cause the illusion of there being wires wrapped around the fanned out lines. Even in the enlarged image it looks like a solid casting, with no opening for the wire to be wrapped through.

Again, until someone can see the actual prop up close and personal, this is all guess work unless what's written on the "Who Props" page is correct.

Thanks guys, as I say, it's just my latest theory, but if nothing better comes to light before I get my arm back I'm going to give this a go and see how it works out.

I've heard of some TARDIS and other prop builds costing "an arm and a leg", but I never thought it would become literal! :o

Pay a visit to House and he can get you a really good arm. (People believe that House was destroyed when the TARDIS's "soul" returned to her console room, however House was not actually destroyed; he learned from the error of his old ways as he was driven out, and now is a good doctor actually helping people, and he's taken on a form that looks remarkably like Hugh Laurie. ;D)

Failing that, visit Stonehenge and see if you can find that discarded Cyber Arm.
Farewell Sarah Jane, you will be missed.

lol. My right arm is currently immobile due to the plate & 12 screws holding my collar bone in attempt to regrow the shattered bone from last year's bicycle stunt.

Ouch! Get well soon!

It doesn't help that it sounds like there was more than 1 key...

Here's one I took, sadly it's not as sharp as I had hoped (I was using a camera with a slightly low battery and didn't get to check it, or I would have taken one with my phone).

Looks like in addition to the Matt Smith phone panel, the Mirror Matcher and the 5 Doctors Console, I have another addition to the list of things to photograph with my new 12 megapixel camera.

In fact, it's probably worth photographing all of the key props, not like I haven't the room, I can take a couple of thousand photos with my current SD card.

The auction for one on the keys is on the 29th. Perhaps someone local could nip down and get some reference piccies...

Or, if anyone has a chunk of money they want to spend on a Tardis key.....
