Many times.
That happens to be the main reason that my console is on hold for the kajillionth time: no funds for flashy lights or usb control boards for said lights.

Well, it being my Birthday and everyone being out of town, I took the day off and spent it in the workshop... :)

I managed to find the console eventually after a little tidying up. ;) And after a quick trip to the hardware shop I had some stain and filler.

Here's the console with most of a small tub of filler on it.

As you can see I'm really not a furniture maker, so this is not going to be a classy item. But it's mine and I love it already.

When I was making the doors originally, I made one that fit so badly I had to build another. But I kept the old one, so I've been able to use that as a stain test.

The above is a single coat of Oak-colour Os wax, applied with a cloth. I've found a brush puts it on much to thickly.

While the filler was drying, I worked on detailing the plinth a little more. I added the molding details to the corners, which I'd beveled on the table saw. I cut small blocks to fit top and bottom and applied them and the edging with a brad nailer (nail gun):

After that I spent a lot of time sanding it smooth to remove the excess filler and also round off the edges slightly. It also evened up some of my not-to-accurate joinery.

I might manage to do a bit more tomorrow, but if not it's probably going to be July at least...

Well, happy birthday then!

And glad to see more progress on this!  The perfect companion to your main console, and a replica of the one from which i pulled a fair bit of ideas for my console....

It's looking very lovely.  Once you get the stain one, it will be gold.

Pah! Already is!

Looking fantastic.

What filler do you use, BTW?

Scarfwearer

It's the lightest non-white colour Ronseal in a tin. The wood is mostly birch, so it's not too bad a match. It's premixed and applies easily with a finger - dries sandable in about 2 hours.

Damn, I just posted some encouraging words in here and they didn't post...

Anyway, she is looking SUPERB, buddy! :) Everyone is going to want one of these :)

Well I just put a second coat of OS wax on the top half, so here's a picture:
