Bonus - Gallifrey Set Design

WOW!! Thats a great find it's a shame there aren't any proper measurements for it, but then again since it's a reproduction it might not be exact to the actual measurements, but it'll still come in handy.

I've managed to use fellow member's (warmcanofcoke's) Studio floor plan and I've added some measurements. Which due to the nature of the reproduction cannot be exact but this is the best i can do, and may come in handy for people who wish to replicate this console room.

Heres the whole studio set with the cyclorama (The Pink Lines for those who don't know) and the edge of the studio space. I've also added the version with just the measurement squares (Grey),





And heres the console room section with the measurements, hopefully it is easy to understand,

Hey, that looks great! What did you base your measurements on?

Did you know that the squares should be 2ft per side?

Due to a course I'm on I've got quite a bit of stuff to hand including studio plans for the BBC which have been drawn in AutoCAD at the correct size, so i just imported the image of the repro and scaled it to fit which showed the area in question with the 2ft by 2ft squares which i think came to about 600mm by 600mm. I then added the measurements, and took a few screen shots.  

Forgot to mention the measurements are in mm.

Very Nice! I wonder if there is a record of the studio number where the Five Doctors was filmed? Maybe there are measurements ..... oh wait, does that studio still exist? .... still, very impressive work.

Yep this studio still exists, i had to do a bit of research to find out which studio this episode was filmed in and i found a website which told the location of a lot of the Doctor Who Episodes, but i really can't remember what it was called, Anyway this episode was filmed in BBC Television Centre Studio 6.

EDIT: I've found out what it is now, not sure if everyone will be able to use the page or not but here it is anyway, just for future use, just click on a story and it'll come up with the locations for it,

That is really cool.
I was originally thinking that if the studio still exists, there probably is a lighting grid chart on the internet somewhere. [In my television classes one of the first steps they taught us was to map out the room for power points(plugs),Microphone XLR ports and there was a lighting grid showing where the lights were etc. These sheets were (for my class at least) preprinted so that new directors could plan a production.]Studio 6 lighting charts might exist online for directors of productions. we might be able to overlay the lighting chart over the studio layout for the Five Doctors. *Not that the above work isn't amazing. I'm just curious.

what does all this mean ..... I have no idea .... I'm tring to find the true dimensions of studio 6 ..... why? I think I'm bored but I think it might be helpful to someone....

For the studio i used on the drawings there was a lighting plan included on this indicated by little blue marks, but they could have easily modernised the lighting in that studio since that episode so I'm not sure if it'll be right. but I've managed to get a view of just the studio here,

I think your right about how big the studio is there, 100ft x 80ft, since the squares are 2ft x 2ft each theres 50 squares across and 40 down (that's including if the side edges are 4ft all the way around) it comes to that number.

On the less accurate side of things, here's a page from a writer's bible that's on the Enlightenment DVD. Presumably this rough sketch was to give incoming writers just enough layout and and terminology for scenes in the console room. They'd need to know about 'tv screens' and door levers but less important was the detail that they aren't an even number of panels away from each other :-)
