I'm probably mad. Probably totally bonkers. Insane, possibly. Even before my TARDIS is finished, I find myself starting a Dalek Build. No idea where I will keep it, as the house is full of blue box parts and the garage is going to be re-built soon, but, I guess that's all part of building Who props isn't it? You have to be slightly mad otherwise you'd never get anything acomplished
I started my New Series Dalek build with the plunger. Probably an odd starting point, I know, but it was someting I could get done in a weekend and was small enough to fit in the house lol. Here is is, my nephew's Voice Control Dalek kindly agreed to model the plunger for me



It was made in 3 stages. Firstly, I made the happy discovery of owning a never-used toilet plunger that was only a few mm out from the PD plans, I had to cut the top of it off so it wasn't to big, but it is close enough. Then I got some dowl of the right size, and used hot glue to stick it on, so I had a almost classic Dalek plunger. Then, I used black felt to create the NSD plunger detail. It's pretty authentic-looking, I think In real life, it does look like it is all moulded out of rubber, and it's flexible too, like a moulded rubber plunger should be So, I'm rather pleased with the results, and it's a start, not much of one but it's definatly a start. Next I plan to get the neck bin and shoulder sections sorted, try to get that hardest parts over with first, then I'll move onto the skirt, base, and eventually, the dreaded dome

Looks like a good start! I figured doing mine that if I start with stuff I could accomplish, I'd be more motivated to do the difficult stuff when I had a lot else done. Good plan - worked for me.

Thanks! Yeah, that's sort of the route I took for my TARDIS, and I guess it works for most people, but my problem now is, I've run out of fun stuff to do and am left with hunting for sign shops to get the sings done and making a concrete base for it, which'll be horrible, so I'm hoping if I get the nasty stuff done first, I'll be able to enjoy the rest more 

Clarkson?  Any relation to Jeremy of Top Gear fame?

Haha! Yes actually. It's not his final name as of yet, more, the "production title", but I'm fond of it lol. I always thought Jeremy sounded a bit like a Dalek "This is the best car.... IN THE WORLD". I always saw a similarity lol. maybe when he's finished, and if he's still called Clarkson, I'll send in a pic, might gie Richard and James a laugh

Just two problems, 1, anything hotglued may need to be restuck after a few years, 5-10 so not a huge problem but I thought I'd warn you. And 2, as we've seen on Top Gear, Daleks do not fit into cars, although now that I think about it nither does Jeremy Clarkson so all in all you can probably ignore this post.

I know what you mean about Daleks not fitting into cars - Northern Charity Daleks are talking about renting a van for the next Dalek outing!

I wonder if it could be worth putting together some plans for a Dalek trailer? I'm going to fabricate a trailer for my Dalek anyway.

Gareth Davies built a trailer top that looks like a TARDIS for his dalek. I think one or two other people have also.
If you have a reasonable-sized 5 door car, many daleks will dismantle enough to fit in if you remove the appendages and nest the dome inside the skirt. Sometimes you need to have a detachable fender, depending on the model.

Well, it's been over half a year since I started this thread, and, since then, well, I've pretty much ignored it - the TARDIS took most of my time.
I kept building though, and have come quite far since then. This is just a quite post to bring you up to date



This was actually mostly built by a good friend of mine, as he had a correct size hemisphere for the back of the eye, and a mould for a step detail on the front. Since he gave it to me, I've made a couple of modifications to it, to make it more accurate to how Dalek Sec first appeared in "Doomsday".

The dome I'm especially proud of. It was build with the aid of a friend of mine, Wayne (not "our" TARDIS Building Wayne lol) using instructions from "Dalek City" and the "Project Dalek" plans. It was based on his Genesis dome mould, from which we worked to make a New Series Dalek dome which is less than 4mm out from the PD plans. Very proud of this hehe, it's just a shame the mould broke apart as Wayne and I took the second dome out of it.



This is one of 2 guns that I'll be using (I'll have 2 interchangable guns), and this one was built by a good friend of mine (the same, in fact, who helped my with the eye). It's make of various sourced metals, with resin finishers, and spray painted silver. This is the gun that I will be rigging up to shoot water at unsuspecting kids (and adults hehe, no one is safe - apart from Crispin and his army of Genesis Daleks). The other gun is machined aluminium, and is almost finished, so I'll post an update about that later

Excellent to see you have made a move to getting yours Dalek closer to been completed, The fiberglass work looks just tops, and the dome is very well dun, keep us informed of your build

The 2nd gun has been completed. Unlike the other one, this is machined out of aluminium and in perfectly accurate to the PD Plans. Some glue has leaked out onto the struts, though, so I want to get rid of that.

I've been further modding the eye today. At first, it was spray painted in a matt-black paint, stippled in layers which gave it a unique casted metal effect. This really was a lovely effect, and gave it a certain level of realism I think, which is not  present on other replicas or even the props. My issue with it was... Dalek Sec's eye doesn't look like that, and I wasn't sure if I preferred it more accurate, or more unique. Eventually I decided on accuracy, and I have stripped the eye down, sanded it, and repainted it in an automotive gloss black. Doesn't show up very well on pictures though, unfortunatly.

In other news, I've been building the Dalek skirt and base recently, they're about half done. I'm very annoyed at myself, because. I had planned for the Dalek to live in a small living space on the back of my new garage. Unfortunatly, I got the measurements of the planned door slightly wrong, and the Dalek skirt won't fit through it by 2.5 inches!! If I had realised sooner I could have built it hinged... unfortunatly...

You could probably still get away with splitting the skirt sections it'll fit through the door especially since it's not got the finish coating on it. I gotta say the eye sounded interesting with the effect paint on it. Good luck with the build

Thanks, well, the eye was sort of a joint build between myself and "thejeremyevans" on You Tube. He did all the electrical gizmos and the resin casting, then I took it, made some changes and rebuilt some parts to make it more accurate to Dalek Sec (even though I'm not entirely sure he's the one I'll eventually go for lol). He has some videos up of how his Dalek's eye looked, and that should give you an idea of what kind of effect it is.
I was going to post some "Before and After" pictures, but on my rubbish camera it looked pretty much the same

I didn't post pictures of the skirt because there's nothing really to show yet, I've cut out the pieces, put the support struts in, and done a tiny bit of cladding. I don't really want to show it until it looks presentable lol
I've been thinking about trying to split it afterwards. I don't fancy trying it now, I'm currently cladding that area. But, yeah, I think perhaps if I  put some extra support struts in, and don't fill in that join, it may bee possible to vary carefully saw the skirt in 2.
