I've been off the forums for a while, but I'm back, and I've scanned some files I think may be of use.

Below are links to download them off the net - from a free file site that is advertising free and registration free, but requires you to wait a few seconds before the download link button appears on the appropriate page.

They are :

The Police Box plans.  The original Police Box - the proper Tardis, if you like.  A3 plans available in jpeg and pdf formats.

Police_ Box_ A3_Plans.jpg (975.82 kB) found here :

At long last, THE POLICE POST plans.  Probably much easier to build than the Police Box, takes up less space, and not copyright BBC.  A3 plans available in jpeg and PDF formats.

Police-Post-A3-plans.pdf (1.97 MB) found here :

I have some actual Police Post logo plates (from a unit I don't have any more).  They are slightly damaged, but as 300dpi actual size scans they will allow builders to match text, kerning and spacing to make great replicas if you're making your own Police Post.

Police-Post-Frontplate-photo.jpg (2.68 MB) found here :

I spent a day in 1987 going round the City of London looking for, finding and photographing the Police Posts that were then existant in the streets.  I don't think any of them exist there any more (though there is a smashed up one still on the northside of the Thames, on the embankment walk, between Blackfriars and Cleopatra's Needle).

From these photos, I have selected amd scanned the following three images.

The first is a close up of the City of London crest.  This is the clearest and least damaged crest which appeared on the top 'head' of the Police Posts.

Police-Post-City-London-crest-photo.jpg (1.19 MB) found here :

http://www.filesend.net/download.php?f=0dd0fef17019136d10f8c93a4abf21c3

Here are two photos of Police Posts I found in 1987.

The first shows the rare raised and extended lamp fitting.

http://www.filesend.net/download.php?f=0df82f98eacd188759202bd8ba689147

The second is a nice front-on shot of a then existant Police Post near Temple.

Police-Post-front-on-photo.jpg (510.59 kB) found here :

Hope these files are of use to the group.

I still have other A0 plans for the Police Post.  These give details and sizes of individual features and fittings of the Police Post.  I evaluated them, but don't think they add anything for the enthusiast who can build from the plans.

Hello, and again, welcome to the Police Post Plan and Reference Thread.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that a Police Post will never threaten to stab you, and in fact can not speak. In the event one does speak to you, please disregard its advice...

Although I've commented in another Thread about the death of most of these files. The A3 Plans PDF is still active, but who knows for how long. If you have the files I'd be happy to host them on my Flickr Account.

I have loads of reference for the Police Post (and other Police Boxes really) to share.

1) The Lost & Found
This details every Police Post and Box I know about in the UK and everywhere else.
This includes Maps, photos, and news articles if available.

2) Police 244 Telephone
My own telephone, with a real Police 244 base and brackets.

3) My Favorites
This has every Police Post image on Flickr bookmarked in my favorites, over 400+ images.

4) Blueprints
This has most of the blueprints I have acquired. Though mostly for Boxes.
The Above working links are not in this set, they technically belong to the UKArchivist.
If they go inactive I suppose I could repost them to the set to keep them going?

5) Digital Preservation Project
This is my 3D computer model of a Police Post, eventually it should be complete.
When I am happy with the model, I will use this to build my own wooden copy.

6) Door Sign
This is a door sign for the Police post. Although it isn't the best it is legible for font comparisons if nothing else.

I think this should be helpful to the curious. I have more photos and details on Flickr but they are hidden from public view to keep the irrelevant clutter down. Let me know if you'd like some more specific views or whatnot and I'll see if I have a photo of it.

Have fun!

Viva...

A serious modeller can't get enough of reference material in his pursuit of perfection...
I must thank you for this wonderful material!!

I suppose this would do well to stay in this thread even if it is quite old.

While I was in the UK I made a reusable silicone mold of the Fresnel Glass on the Northwood Police Post. It was basically an after thought to use the last spoon full of putty, So sadly I don't have the circumference measurement to go with this cross section. The mold basically makes a 1" wide by 5" tall section of the Fresnel Glass when cast from plaster. To make the scan below I only cast half of the mold but it bent the top fins. The middle bubble is 1 7/8" and the bottom fins are straight, the top fins have the thickness of the glass which is a 1/4".

However that being said, perhaps some one on here knows a way use this to make a replica?
I expect that it would look good cast in clear resin if a mold could be made from this pattern.

I'd really like to get one of these for one of the remaining police box Fresnels.
It certainly would be easier than locating an appropriate modern glass I should think.

Cheers,

Someone with a lathe could tool this out of wood to make a pattern. Then would come the coating of some mould release on the pattern. (I've heard that Pam cooking spray works better than the expensive name brand "mould releasers", but it would be good to seal the wooden pattern with a varnish first, to stop it from just absorbing the spray.) And then the pouring of silicone rubber over the pattern to create the mould.

For casting the lens using clear resin (or other type of clear plastic-type stuff), there would also need to be a cylinder blank to go inside the mould so the casting would be hollow... say, making the end result a lens about half inch thick or so all around. Otherwise without the blank insert you'd end up with a solid casting and then that would have to be hollowed out creating lots of waste material.

It can be done. Someone just needs to have the right tools to do it (which, sadly, I don't).

The profile can be made into some sort of hardboard negative that can then be used to whittle down some clay.  Then the clay after it hardens can be used to make a cast of the outside.  After that the cast can be used to make resin replicas.  Someone used a similar technique to make classic TARDIS Console Room Roudels.

I'm thinking about building a Police Post after I've finished my current build, would make a great furniture piece with the house phone inside.
Farewell Sarah Jane, you will be missed.

I've had the same idea about it really. Except for the fact I don't own a land line, but I might one day.

I thought it would be more constructive to turn mine into a grandfather clock like deal. You know have it sound the hours and half hours by sounding the internal bells. They even sell electronic kits to mimic say proper westminster chimes found in most grandfather clocks. Mind you that being said I'd make it so the chimes couldn't go off after midnight or until 7am. No sense waking everyone up in the middle of the night with it after all. But it might be fun to let the lantern flash regardless of time.

Anyway as this thread is for plans, I thought I would share some of my drafted plans as esoteric as they are.

1) The Internal Shelving
Details on the shelves are accurate to Drawing 90734 Revision E on September 29th 1958. This was first drafted June 7th 1956.
The highest resolution image gives better detail, jpegs aren't the best medium for information like this I find.

5028843058_33b6cf36ec_z.jpg

2) Most of the Front Panel
Details on the front panel are accurate to Drawing 90545 - Sheet 2 - Revision E on May 15th 1963.
This was first drafted on October 27th 1955. (Hmm just days before Doc Brown invented Time travel, coincidence?)

This one is more of an experiment with the 3D model being chopped up to mimic the hand drafted plans.
Its not bad for a first go but needs more work. Take a look at the highest resolution image for a better look.

It has been far too long without a Post in this topic.
Although My progress of the plans has increased I have yet to perfect them.
As of yet the Front panel remains unchanged, but the side Panels have been completed.

In any case, anyone looking for nice images of the Glass Signs, I'll leave these here.
Coincidentally, I've tried twice to get sign shops here to print these into real signs.
Both shops refused to print them because they said Police. Crazy eh?

Glass 66 - Police Public Call Post

A nice City of London Crest that went on the City Posts.
The Plate is 7" wide by 5" tall, and the curve top starts 2.75" up from the edge of the 7" bottom.

I finally got around to making nice 600DPI scans of these signs.
These are raw as in I have cleaned out the scratches or made the text white.

The blue comes out much darker than appears in person, but otherwise these should be good for editing. Originals on my Flickr are at full scale.

The font for this is Paradigm Light.  Sadly it's not in my arsenal of fonts.

Looking at Paradigm Light there are a few differences, but it would be a good starting point.

You're right, but it's pretty easy to reshape the letters that have some minor differences.
