I've decided to give my Console Model Build a quick break till I've gathered the materials to carry on with it, so i had to think of something to occupy me for a week and soon decided to make another TARDIS model (which will be the 4th I've made). I've wanted to make a 2005 series TARDIS for a while, to the annoyance of my parents, I'm always getting 'why are you making another one!'

I've now made a scale drawing for this build to go from, which will come in very handy.

I've started with the base which I'll paint soon then carry on with the frames and the doors, but ill need to work out what colour paint to use, something ill have to think about  :)

That's a fine-looking set of plans!

I use Tamiya acrylic model paints for mine.  For my Bad Wolf build I used "Sea Blue" (XF17) as a matt undercoat followed by gloss "Royal Blue" (X3)
and then painted it with matt varnish. It gives a good approximation of that gloomy "Eccleston" look.

Know what you mean about the "why are you making another one?"  Do you also get "why don't you try making something else?"   :)

Ooh, drawing board with movable ruler guide.  Still, I did make plans for this TARDIS which are linked and available for free over in the reference section of the board if you wish to gander.  Then you can compare the two and see where you want to go from there.

Thanks for the handy advice on which paint you've used, makes it a bit easier choosing what colours to use when you can see what others have used. And yes the "why don't you try making something else?"  question comes straight after the "why are you making another one?", i can set my watch by it.  :)

Thanks for letting me know about your set of plans i'll have to have a good look in a bit then i can adapt my plans if i need to.

I've finally chosen which paint to use and it seems to be a mixture of about 4 different paint colours, which I've posted below,

DSCF1962B.jpg

I'll talk through my process, first i paint on the "Surf" which acts as a undercoat then has the "Teal" on top. Next i add the "Dramatic" and dab some off then i gently sand a small amount off too, to show the "Surf" colour underneath. i repeat that again with the"Midnight Sky" and dab a small amount of Black on the edges, finished. It may be a quite lengthy process but it does look good when finishes.

Heres the base section before i added the several layers of paint,

DSCF1953.JPG

And heres the base when it has been painted, theres a good reason why i haven't painted the middle which ill post soon.

DSCF1960.JPG

After i finished the base i started on the frames for the main doors,

DSCF1963.JPG

still got another two to do and then ill continue with the door and windows, should be fun, but it's slowly getting done.

I like your paint texture very much.  What material are you building with?  Is it card?

the doctor who2

Has it really been that long since i last updated, time flies.
just a little update I've now painted all the border sections and stuck the light box sections on top,

DSCF2038.JPG

and I'm now starting to paint and distress the doors.

It's mostly made from card but things like the base and the roof section when i get to it will be made from foamboard covered in thin card, makes it easier to paint on  :)

I've now managed to get back into this build again and hopefully i can get it finished in the next few weeks. Anyway I've finished making the windows and the base section.

DSCF2284.JPG

DSCF2285.JPG

The windows were simply made with cardboard and the 'glass' was made using a plastic milk bottle making a nice frosted look.
For the doors I've managed to find these little door handles, which'll make it look a little bit more realistic.

DSCF2296.JPG

Heres is the finished base section,

DSCF2290.JPG

DSCF2294.JPG

Since i plan to have the doors open in the model i needed a wooden floor similar to the one in the actual TARDIS and i really didn't want to use a print out so i ended up making the real thing. This was achieved using actual pieces of very thin mahogany cut into strips with a couple of pieces missing. The next part to be done is the sides to be stuck together and the main doors to be 'hinged' to allow the doors to open and close.  :)

Nice detail. I like how you have done the floor to the TARDIS.

Thanks geminitimelord it took ages to make but I'm proud of how its turned out.

Quite a bit has happened since i last posted so to begin with every TARDIS build i always try out new stuff, this is my fourth build (the first on this forum),
the first build was very simple and when i look at it now and its just rubbish its shameful to look at,
the second build i had just one door that opened (I'm currently 'regenerating' this build, its also the one that I'm using as my user image)
the third build i had two doors that opened with a backing image,
and now my fourth build what can i do on this build that i didn't do on the others, i didn't make the telephone door open with a telephone inside it. so that's what I've done.
I've had to adjust the main door so it can house the telephone which I've had to do twice cause the door wouldn't open properly the first time but it does now but it still needs tweaking and a bit more paint,

DSCF2332.JPG

DSCF2333.JPG

DSCF2335.JPG

Then onto the phone itself, i used references from the Exterior workshop section, i raided anything i thought would come in handy, this included a pen, washes, something called Gromits, beads, paint brush handle, staples, etc.

DSCF2336.jpg

Heres the pieces, some ready to paint and others to be stuck together, the first image is the bells for the top which are actually light switches for a dolls house but play the part very well, and below that is the ear piece which is made from the end of a paint brush and a gromit soon to have a washer stuck to it. The middle two images are the mouth piece made from the tip of a pen, with washers stuck at either end. and the last two is the box which is made using the same wood as the flooring, mahogany, with a cut staple to represent hinges. the hook to hang the mouth piece from (Not shown here except in the images below) i used a gromit again and a small piece of metal.
And here is the semi-finished product,

DSCF2317.JPG

DSCF2320.JPG

DSCF2331.JPG

DSCF2321.JPG

The ear piece i kept loose just adds to the illusion really, also i ended up making another mouth piece because when i tried it on the wooden box it look comically too big so made a new one to look smaller but I'm not sure if it does,

DSCF2330.JPG

As you saw the 'bells' have been added as well as the beads,
and heres the final telephone,

DSCF2324.JPG

DSCF2326.JPG

Next will be to stick the phone to the door and glue the main door to the rest of the build.  :)
Ooh and heres a quick snap of the telephone on the door section

Right I'm now near completing this build, I've painted the roof section and have completed the lamp section using odds and ends, I've used a felt tip pen lid for the glass section and stuck strips of coloured sticker across to create the hatching.

DSCF2375.JPG

then i painted some washes which will make the top and bottom sections and have moulded some Styrofoam to create the roof of the lamp, then painted finished,

DSCF2376.JPG

DSCF2382.JPG

and stick,

DSCF2405.JPG

all thats left to do is stick the graphics on and the fine details, ill post the finished product soon.
