Great work, I'd love on of these but there's no way I could produce something that good.
Farewell Sarah Jane, you will be missed.

Is this the primary or secondary console?
I know it's always been called the secondary but...Tom Baker did to say "come to think of it this was the old one".

Doesn't that imply that this console was actually used before the on screen version?

Scarfwearer

I think the idea was that although it was an earlier incarnation of the console room, it was still used as a backup if the main one was unavailable for some reason, much as one might keep a 'secondary' lawnmower.

That's my thinking on it too, and it's a concept I'd like to see used in the new series at some point. It would have been an interesting twist to Smith's first episode actually. Console room is destroyed, so newly regenerated Doctor runs (falling against walls as he goes) to the secondary control room. It's too late and he still crashes, but is able to use the Tardis over the next week or so as the main room rebuilds itself. It would have built suspense rather than just revealing it all straight up. It would have also been cool if they'd rebuilt the season 14 room for this, old series fans would have loved it.

Oh, okay.

As I've gathered, not all of this console's panels were shown, (didn't stop herr doktor making up his own) are you going to follow his idea or make your own?

Dunno yet - I'll worry about that when I get that far.

There's some more trim to add to the plinth before I start staining, but it should end up a similar colour to the original.... I hope.

So Crispin will you be building another console room to place this console in? :) hehehe
(and if you even dare to answer yes to that then you will hear me scream from there..lol)

Don't think so! :) ... although I have been pondering wood-panelling the office....

Crispin

ooo wood panelling your office in the style of the Tardis....ok thats pretty damned exciting all by itself...

When My K9 build is complete I may just have to pop him down the road to you for a few photos...LOL ;)

Scarfwearer

Well wood panelling, maybe - not sure about the TARDIS styling... not sure it'll happen at all to be honest, but we can dream... :)

I'm really impressed with this work Crispin!  Can't wait to see what comes next.  Any plans for the rotor?

Well, I've a couple of ideas for later. I want to have something there (hence the hole), but I've not quite decided what yet.  Possibly something brass and clockwork, maybe like an anniversary clock, though probably not exactly that.

I gather there were originally plans for some kind of rotor, but they didn't get it together in time (or budget), so it didn't happen, and they just covered the hole (if there ever was one) with a plate.

I really love the anniversary clock idea.  The clear dome casing and the clockwork would be great.  Maybe a futuristic take on that with some classic elements.  I think even the brass would be a great idea with some EL wire or LEDs in the clock?

exleo

I agree, the idea of an anniversary clock with the class dome is a terrific one and a bit of 'mood' lighting added to show off the clockwork mechanism....

Scarfwearer

I've been pondering doing a miniature version of the Hartnell console mechanism, but in brass.
Having said that I've never worked with brass before, so that could be a bit of an adventure... and quite possibly beyond me.
I'll wait until I see whether the console turns out well enough before going that route.
