This one's on public property so it's not like I'm just going to nick it, although I fully intend to bring my contour gauge on my next trip to the zoo. It's a good thing it's not at the airport or they might think I was a terrorist.

There's a 5 3/4" X 5 3/4" fresnel from Minnesota, US on ebay.  The item number is 7418293317.

Odd.  I tried it on my other machine and it worked fine on it.  Well, go to http://www.menardsonlinecollections.com/ and do a search for Triumph.

The tinylink worked fine for me (IE6) - slight pause before it takes you there, but that's OK.

Oh and.... Nice Find!

Looks like they ship to the lower 48, but not internationally...

EDIT: quickly tried it again, and it took me to a bath tap! All subsequent attempts have worked, however. Maybe their website had hiccups.

I just tried the link and it works fr me now.  I guess there was some sort of hiccup that happened last night.

Bill, you're saying that the lens is 8" x 6".  I'm guessing that would be 8" tall by 6" diameter.  I'm thinking that's a bit tall, but I'm sure one could cut it down a bit.

That's an excellent find, if I hadn't already bought the somewhat battered lens that I found on eBay, I'd certainly be getting one of these.

Just doing some poking around, these are made by Hunter Lighting.  If you go to their site, search the product catalog for Beacon.  They have a store locator on their site (for the US), just incase you want to get it from a different store.  They show different sizes of lanterns, but I've no idea if these would be different sizes of lenses or not - it's something to investigate.

I couldn't find the boxes for that lamp, just the sample they had onthe wall and my rough guess was 8" X "6.  Thinking about it further after looking at their website, it may be closer to 7" X 5" or 7.5" X 5.5".  I'll try Menards again in person later this week.

I contacted customer support for Hunter Lighting and asked about the "glass shades" that are part of their Beacon Series.  I asked for the diameter and height for the different sizes of wall lanterns and here's what I got:

90951FL (Beacon 1 Light Small Wall Lantern)    3 1/8" at top and bottom 5" tall
90952FL (Beacon 1 Light Medium Wall Lantern) 4 3/8" top and bottom 6 3/4" tall
90953FL (Beacon 1 Light Large Wall Lantern)   4 3/4" top 5" bottom 7 3/8" tall

These part numbers refer to a specific finish.  The small lanterns are advertised as 13" high, the medium ones at 16" and the large ones at 17".  The person at customer support didn't know the diameter in the middle of the lenses.

I was also told that they don't stock many spares (for people who break the glass) so while the person thought that they may be able to spare 1 or 2, I don't think we should all rush out to our local retailers and get them to order "replacement glass".

It looks like Perko makes decent size lenses.  Look on page 80 of their online catalog.  These would be found at marine supply stores.

Colin -- nice find indeed on those Fresnel Lens's!

FYI:
Karst and Purple got their Fresnel lens from Hardware Specialty Co. Their particular lens measurements: height 6" x diameter 6.5"

I spoke to a guy named Joe Wilson.  He was very helpful.   They have about 30-40 glass 360 degree Fresnel lens' left.  They have not sold the glass ones in quite some time.  There going for about $44.00 US.  I ordered one and will post a pic to make sure it is the real McCoy!
I have included the address, phone numbers, web site that Karst posted on my thread for those interested.

Cheers -- Jon

Hope this is of help

Blimey, I did a double take there - once took some photos of my fresnel that looked almost exactly like that. Even the background was quite similar...  :o

I love Mark of the Rani. A great story! I've often wondered how they did that too... Could also have destroyed the camera, let alone the TARDIS! Which always made me think it was a modelshot. That said, in that case it was a BRILLIANT model.
