What is the angle of pitch of a TARDIS roof?

Anyone?

I used 10o on my Season 18 build, but it looks a little flat... I wish I'd used 15o

If you're curious about the angle, here's a trigonometry tip:

Find the vertical 'height' of the sloped part (usually about 3")
Find the horizontal 'width' of the slope up to the lamp base (sloped_roof_width - lamp_base_width) / 2, (usually around 16-17")

The angle is ASIN(width/height).

So you can type (for example)

     ASIN(3/16) in degrees

into google, and it will give you the angle.

Hi Tom
I didn't measure my pitch but Sorvan did (Thank you Sorvan!) and he said it was 11 degrees - so similar to yours.
I think it looks fine.
Real police boxes were a steeper pitch, I think?

The Trench plans have a 15° pitch on them which is what I've used.  Tom, your box looks great - very TARDISy.  There seem to be a number of us going for a more Met box look, but I don't think that detracts from what you have.  If you really feel that 15° is better for you though, you could always make another roof.  ;D

The roof on my build is pitched at 10o too, purely because I really don't like it being any steeper.

Hi Tom
I don't know if this is any help but here goes;
I'm using the Doc Neal diagram and this doesn't specify an angle for the pitch. It does however give a measurement of 3ins rise from the top step to the bottom of the lamp support. When I built my roof I built the turret to support the lamp first, this meant a pitch of about 12 deegrees.Therefore the wider the lamp the steeper the pitch. When I noticed the pitch at Crich to be steeper than mine I realised it has a very wide plate under the lamp.
Here's a sketch to illustrate;

I think it's down to the individual really to do what he or she thinks looks right for thier build.Hope this is of use
Good building

For what it's worth, seeing as we're talking TARDISes here and not Police Boxes, all of the BBC props up until 1996 had a pitch of 10o or less (depending on which prop you look at).

I can't remember off hand what the new series pitch is, but the Newbery Box had the most shallow pitch, followed by the Brachacki Box, then the Yardley Jones version which had the 10o.

The Doc Neale plans that some members have started to use for their builds is just my mate's drawing up of my TARDIS prop (he wanted a copy of my box for himself) and that one's roof is also 10o because when I increased it, it just didn't look right on the plan.  Again, what degree you go for is purely down to personal choice.
