Quote from: doctorwho8 board=general thread=1147955032 post=1149043385There's a 5 3/4" X 5 3/4" fresnel from Minnesota, US on ebay.  The item number is 7418293317.

I just bid $15 on it.  If someone who doesn't have a lens yet wants it, let me know and I won't bid any higher.

Not sure where this should go, so here is as good as any place.

While I was in Florida a couple of weeks ago, I went to an antique market in Mount Dora called Rennigers, and a guy there had a huge booth that had a real general store feel to it. Antique door handles, tools, and, yes, hanging up from a bar, some fresnel lamps.

So, should anyone in Florida be building a TARDIS, this is your place to stop by.

I came across this just by chance whilst doing "the day job", and it may be just the thing for a new series type build.  Have a look for yourselves, see what you think...

http://www.edisposals.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/Disposals-Public-Site/en_US/-/GBP/ViewProductDetail-Start;pgid=MieqQ4wkQg8000ArvQ_8K1sp00001MejznBt?ProductRef=Babcok-0000000044109%20%20%40Disposals-Public&CatalogCategoryID=lFnAqBELhToAAAD_FXJpc4d2&JumpTo=BrowseStandardCatalog

EDIT: If you can't get the link to work, go to www.edisposals.com, click on "Ships" and look over at their "Top Seller" area.  You should find for £100 a ship's navigation light with the right sort of fresnel lens for a TARDIS build...  If and when I ever get mine started, it's the sort of thing I would probably use.

Cheers!

I see some generic information here. I thought it would be good to start a more specific thread on the manufactures, models and replacement lens. It makes it allot easier to shop around for price if you have a manufacture and model number to find the replacement lens.  Even better if you have the replacement part number and know which light it is for.

Here is what I have on Perko. The large size on the real boxes only comes in one light, that same light also comes in the smaller size many use.

PERKO

White All-Round Light 1153

White All-Round Light 1153E01GAL Height Lens: 6-3/4"

Quote from: foxmeister board=manual thread=900 post=17577 time=1224413160Has anyone got any further advice for lenses? I've looked at the Perko site, and whilst they do have what I want they want a lot of money for it. I'm not cheap, but I was hoping to keep the cost of my build below $1000 (if possible) and spending nearly a 1/6 of it on a lamp seems excessive to me!Dave

Dave check out this page:  http://tardisboard.proboards43.com/index.cgi?board=build&action=display&thread=132 It's about half way down, a post that I made awhile back.  Hardware Specialty Company in Seattle, Washington, USA. I bought my Fresnel lens from them.  I just spoke to a guy Joe Hickey, he is now the sales contact for the company.  The cost is still 44.00 US.  They have about 20 lenses left.  He told me he recently shipped to  Australia.  They are the real thing too! Very nice thick glass! I hope that helps!

I picked up a lense and wanted to double check with you all about the size. From what I read up on here first I think its about right.

I know it's not the correct color but I was just worried about the size.

Thanks!

I started a key to time project a while back which got me working with clear resin and silicone mold rubber. This got me to wondering if it would be possible to cast an entire fresnel lense and if you could, would it stand up to the out doors and the heat from a light and how long will it take to get overly yellowed from the sun.

So I found one that was, I believed, to be close to the correct size and not super nauticaly collector priced. Mostly meaning it's not clear, and it has quite a few chips but no cracks. Color dosen't matter because, maybe someday, it will simply be a mold master.

If it worked, wasn't too much trouble, or cost too much in resin to produce it /might/ be an alternative or atleast temporary alternative to finding an actual glass lense.

Or so the theory goes. Sadly I'm not moveing very quickly on my key project either but I figured atleast haveing the lense stareing at me would be a reminder.

You can get them here in the states at the Menard's chain of DIY stores.  I saw a sample one on the wall and was floored.  The fresnel is about 8" X 6".  This would be suitable for those building the original Hartnell TARDIS or the 1996 TARDIS or your own custom build.  And it's only $60 US!  Here's the link.

Darksyde,

I don't know if you saw this post in your search on TR2, but here's some helpful info for you...
« Post on 6/12/06 at 10:04pm »

Here's some valuable information on FRESNEL LENSES...

FYI:
Karst and Purple got their Fresnel lens from Hardware Specialty Co. Their particular lens measurements: height 6" x diameter 6.5"

Hardware Specialty was very helpful. They have about a total of 30-40 glass 360 degree Fresnel lenses left in stock. They have not sold the glass ones in quite some time. Cost is $44.00 US.
The information below is courtesy of Karst for those interested.

Just got the Fresnel lens in today, 12 June 06. The lens measures 5 3/4" in height and 5 1/2" in diameter for those interested. Here's a couple pics:

COST $44.00 US.

Yep.  I ordered both of my lenses from Hardware Specialty.  They packaged both of the lenses so well I don't they would have broken even if I dropped the box.  They were very courteous and the shipping only took about 4 days to reach me.

So what are your plans with the red lamp?  A red or pink TARDIS/Police Box?
