A friend of mine tells me they keep moving it around Television Centre to various locations for the enjoyment of those on the tour trip! Apparently its never in the same place more than once.
When I was there it was as Dale said in the Scene Store. :-/ its always on a trolley coz its not dismantleable anymore.

There was also a police box (Tardis) at The London studio's (formerly LWT) in the Props Store, but it was neither authentic looking or to scale in fact it was all wrong, and yet so well built, I couldn't get my head around WHY someone - who was clearly a master at prop building would make something so inaccurate, so badly planned, but so beautifully -  It also  made me wonder why they would have one ... its ITV.... :-/

did anyone see doctor who confidential on Saturday because when RTD was talking about the Pompeii episode there appeared to be a Yardley-Jones behind him.
I think it's a DVD cabinet but it's slightly darker than that so it got me wondering.....

I know for a fact that there was a second movie box made for promotional material that is now touring the UK along with Paul Mcgann's original costume and sonic screwdriver. I saw it at the Torquay museum during it;s brief stay in the SiFi exhibition last year. I may post some pictures soon if anyone really cares :)
Isn't it how ironic that we have to think of solutions out of the box, in order to build our boxes a lot of the time?

Please do.  We'd be interested in that.

The battered old eighties box, which used to sit outside the audience entrance at BBC Television Centre, is now in the prop store at Upper Boat, Cardiff.

This one?

Took this photo on 12 June 2009 - me and Mrs V were going to see the filming of Shooting Stars.

That one is a new series model.  Pretty sure he's referring to this one:

Oh I certainly care, given that is what I am building

Aha!

Yeah, I was a bit confused as I'd heard the one outside the BBC entrance was the later Christopher Eccleston/David Tennant one. Makes sense that they replaced it with another one.

Wayne :) -
As far as I can tell, there are two possibilities of what happened to the new Series Box in your picture.
(None of this is definite by the way, but it seems to be the most common story from both Who fans and BBC Workers) We know that that Tennant box (yes, Eccle's was different, but very slightly, only in terms of shade of blue and some slight size difference) has been put in storage, possibly to make appearances at Doctor Who Exhibitions and for any possible future use in Doctor Who (*cough* 2013 *cough*). Now, there were also 4 other Eccleston boxes, we know that 2 of them (the 2 hero props) were used in the show until the Tennant arrived in late 2005. One of these was auctioned off a few weeks ago. The other was put on stand-by in case it was needed for anything in the show, such as the other box getting damaged. there were also another 2 Eccleston boxes used for promotional material, but not for the show. These were wooden and exactly the same as the early Eccle's boxes. They were later repainted for use in promo material during Tennant's stint, but, soon after one of them turned up in the BBC-TVC. This is the one in your picture.
Now, in 2010, they made a new box for the show, with almost exactly the same dimensions as the Tennant prop, well, there is one difference in the base, but now isn't the time or place. They only made one of these, and they also modified the old Tennant promo box to be a Smith promo box, liberties were taken with the lights and the paint, there were no lights, the lamp was slightly changed and the windows re-built, in order to look good on camera. For all the marketing and hype before and part-way through series 5, the Tennant box continued to stand sentinel at the BBC TVC. But, a few weeks later it "de-materialised" to be replaced by a new Smith TARDIS in it's place, pictures of this have now been posted by "pmc". I have two theories as to where your old box has gone. The first is simply that it was repainted and modified to continue sitting in the TVC, but this seems unlikely as the one in the TVC was only gone for a very short while. What is more likely is that the one in the TVC is actually the promo box from series 5. Soon after being placed there, the box's handle was stolen lol, well, we think it was, it's clearly been broken off the door, and handles don't just fall off a TARDIS. Anyway, what could have happened to the TVC Tennant box is it is now al the Land's End Doctor Who Exhibition in Cornwall. I have been there twice, last summer hols, and this summer hols. Last year they had a mock-up of the old Davison box on display near the entrance, this could actually have been an original as it looked really battered to me, but this year, it has magically been replaced with a Tennant box, where did they get it? It's unlikely to be a replica, cost to much to make when they already have one, and it's not any of the others, so it would make sense. I did ask an employee what was going on, but all they knew was the box has just arrived and was going off to either the Cardiff of Newcastle Exhibition soon. Unfortunatly, the box seems to have gone now to be replaced by a totally rubbish fibreglass thing that instead of being a TARDIS replica actually promotes the Doctor Who website, it says on the roof sign "BBC.co.uk/DoctorWho";, and there is no door sign to speak of, it also seems to be missing it's lamp, but you won't see that as it's mounted almost behind the railing on a ramp at the entrance, so all you really get is a bottom up-view.
So there you have it, some totally useless and boring information that has probably bored most people to death reading it.

I will also post the pics of that promo McGann prop soon, first ever time these pics will be on the internet, the box has been in storage since forever, exciting moment :)

So yeah, here are some pictures of the second movie box.
-A bit of history on the subject, I cannot guarantee it to be 100% accurate:
All this was on a little sign next to the box itself in the exhibit.
At least 2 Hudolin boxes were created for the TV movie in 1996, there may be more, but there was at least 2. Whereas the first prop was used in the actual movie, the second prop was used only in promotional material, such as trailers, and promo pics with members of the cast.  It may have actually been used in the movie for that last scene by the fountain, as some sources claim, but the answer to that seems to have been lost in time, although it seems to be more likely that this was not the case.
The box was exactly the same as the one used in the movie, as it was not clear at the time of production which was going to receive which role, they just built 2 and chose one to use afterwards I guess.
After its short-lived film career, the box fell into private hands. The owner refurbished it, added lights and even gave it a new lick of paint. But, after many years and repairs, the box does now have some damage to the roof, where on one side the sign box has started to rip away from the lower step on the roof. It is no longer 100% accurate after all it's repairs, but it's still pretty damn close, and is in considerably better condition than it's brother box.
Last year the box's owner allowed the box to go and live in a temporary SiFi exhibition in Torquay, Devon, for a few months. It had many friends there including Tom Baker's original scarf (one of them), a Silurian head, Paul McGann's screwdriver, a replica Renegade Dalek, Paul McGann's original costume, and perhaps one of the most exciting things there, an original K9, the original Special Weapons Dalek from Rememberance of the Daleks. Anyway, yes, sorry to waffle, I'm sure you want to see the pictures ;)

Sorry about the blur in the first image. I have many more pics of this knocking around somewhere, and if anyone wants to see them feel free to ask. I was actually thinking of starting a whole new thread for this, there is so little info and reference to the actually Hudolin box that it may be useful to have more of these pics ;)

Hehe, this box is now very special to me, as when I first set eyes upon this and in my head I regressed to a 10-year-old, I thought, "Yes. Now I know what I want to do. I want to build one of them..."-Which is how I eventually ended up here. Here's hoping that now someone else will see these and decide to build their own TARDIS. If something like that happens, the half-hour that I have spent writting this may be worth it.  :D

Love to see them, yes, if it's not too much trouble! Thanks for these.

There is a thread in the reference section for the Hudolin prop itself though there are few photos there, I would love to see more, they could be of help to me.  Though it does seem that the box in these pics is missing the jamb detail that joins with the bottom step.

I wouldn't be surprised, although, it's about 14 now, quite old for a fibreglass box, repaired and repainted several times and shipped all around the USA and them moving to the UK, I think it's not doing too badly. I gave it the once over when I was there, well, what I mean is I had a good luck at the detailing and proportions. Most of it seems to be roughly correct and in-line with movie pictures, although all the texture had been removed. Actually, I'm told Paul McGann actually visited this box recently to have a look, and he couldn't see anything wrong with it. Well, so the museum employee said, and I trusted him because he was dressed as a Stormtrooper. Life lesson everyone, when your in a cafe having a drink with a Stormtrooper with a gun you have just met, it's not a very good idea to disagree with them, I can visualise how that might end badly...

If I'm looking at these picts correctly... there doesnt seem to be a bevel to the edges of the relief of the door pannels?

They look beveled to me -- something close to 20 degrees, thus difficult to make out at any distance.
