So, there are probably existing posts regarding this issue, but I can't seem to find them.

I'm building a TARDIS console; it's a completely new design but has the structure of the classic series console. My question is, is there any way I can find out the measurements for panels and other parts of the console?

Anyone who could get back to me on this ASAP would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

I drew up a set of approximate plans from estimates based on screen caps, which are on my website as Karsten mentioned.
I've also included them in the [ref board=26]Console Reference[/ref] section on this site in the sub-boards for each of the different consoles. e.g. The original Hartnell console is in [ref board=51]Series 1[/ref] and my plan for that one has a topic [ref topic=1095]Scarfwearer Hartnell console plans[/ref] where people can discuss the details and help to refine the approximations. The other variants on the console are in the other sub-boards.

Thanks so much, both of you! I very much appreciate it!

OKAY SO...I'm buying some plywood for my console build very soon BUT I just need to know the dimensions/measurements of a single panel so I can work from there. I have read Scarfwearer's plans, but found them a bit confusing as far as the measurements of the panels themselves. Help?

All I basically need to know is...this:

PANEL.jpg

Now, I know that these dimensions differ with each console BUT I need at least a rough idea to get started.

A= top length
B= diagonal length
C= bottom length
D&E= angular degrees

Scarfwearer

Most of the consoles were approximately:

A = 17.5"
B = 30.5"
C = 46"

angles D and E are not very useful, because when the top of the panel is 9-10" above the bottom of the panel (which is about the height you want), the angle differs by about 1.5 degrees from the 60 degree angle that would make them lie completely flat! It's very hard to measure that accurately. The best way to assemble the panels is to build the supports for the panels, and cut the panels to fit the space they're supposed to occupy.
A more useful number is the distance between the A and C lines, which is about 27", but you'll still likely do better if you build everything except the panels and then cut them to fit. At least that's how it's worked for me.

You may find our console calculator handy: Console Calculator. Type numbers into the white boxes, and other measurements will be filled in in the grey boxes when you press enter.
(This is still hosted on the old forum - when I bring it over here I'll fix up this link - but no-one's asked about this for a while so I haven't gotten around to it... ::))

Hope that helps.

Crispin, my good man, this is brilliant. Thanks so much for this, you're definitely the go-to guy/Time Lord when it comes to this stuff! Cheers and many many thanks!

Collecting the information we have here is definitely an ongoing group effort.

It's impossible unless you use D and E!

Sorry - couldn't resist. ;)

LOL! Well so Susan says, anyway... :)
