Absolutely.  Make a TARDIS that makes you happy.  Besides the woodgrain gives a nice texture to add your weathering to.  The weathering is very nice, by the way.  It's funny, I know how to weather an actual TARDIS (although mine is getting old enough that the weather handles that for me) but I have no idea how you weather a virtual TARDIS.

I've always thought you could just see a bit of woodgrain through the paint in the pilot, but not raised woodgrain like the modern boxes.

I do like a bit of woodgrain on a TARDIS, even though I know the originals were concrete!
You can't see the woodgrain on my build now, due to multiple coats of sealant and paint!

Thanks for all of your lovely comments & feedback, all! This is the first (well, techinally second) time I've 3d modelled a TARDIS box and it turned out really well! 😃

I've made a turntable animation of the model so you can see the entire thing, it just needs to be rendered 🙂

I'm not sure which TARDIS exterior I'll be 3d modelling next, maybe the Hudolin Movie Box next or the Yardley Jones Box 😄

Hey all, here's my 3d render of my 1st Doctor's TARDIS model. I did the lighting myself :)

I've rendered my Turntable animation of it, but I noticed, in the final render that it was a bit noisy (in terms of video quality) so, I've to re-render it in Blender at a higher quality.

That turned out nice.  I take back what I said about the woodgrain.  It works very well in the final work.

Oh goodness, thank you so much! I very much appreciate it. 😁 I showed this to one of my tutors at college and she said that the wood grain was a bit regular. Meaning that could be an interesting wood pattern, given that woodgrain often has those swirly bits and such.

That was just her only point of feedback that she had, she also thought I did a very good job none the less.

Many thanks for your feedback too!

Hey all, I hope you're doing well! I've started to 3d model a couple of TARDIS exteriors, one of them was the Tom Yardley Jones Box and the other is the Richmond Box (I believe, correct me if I'm wrong!) from 2005-08. Here's what I've done today for the 2005-08 Box.

However, I realised that it'll be a bit too complex for me to model, specifically the roof as it has extra panels on the corners, which I did try to model and it turned out okay.  The lantern was a bit of a pain to 3d model so, it looks kind of shoddy. :(

Here's what my Tom Yardley Jones Box, I feel like this is coming along well other than the 9th & 10th Doctor's Box.

Hey all! I've uploaded my Turnaround of my 1st Doctor TARDIS exteiror on my YouTube channel 🙂. The quality may be a little blurry/pixelated because of YouTube's compression settings though. Sorry about that.

Hello everyone! I need some help if that's okay, I'm back on working on the Arwel Wyn Jones TARDIS box and I was wondering if the entire roof of the box, had that wood grain pattern like the doors and panels have?

From the reference material I took and screenshotted, it doesn't seem to have that wood grain but, I wanted to double check on here to make sure 😅

Here's what I've textured for the roof so far but it looked really odd to me so, your input on it would be really lovely! 🙂

Many thanks

Hi, I think your texture base is nice, it's just "too clean" for now, with the addition of some scratches and just a bit of dust, it will be ok! ;)
I'm just a Doctor Who & TARDIS fan... You can take a look to my Insta (it's about my 3D and not only TARDIS!) if you want: https://www.instagram.com/shkyo30/  See you later...

Many thanks for your feedback, I'll do my best to dirty it up a bit 🙂

Hello, everyone! It has certainly been a good while since I last posted on here!! I apologise for my radio silence, life has got in the way but I am BACK! And with a NEW TARDIS MODEL in the works!

This one is the Box D TARDIS from Matt's Smith's tenure of the series, it's one of my favourites mainly because of how chunky and big it is! 😁

The red texture on is temporary, it's just a matcap material on it.  Also I've had to compress this down a bit so the viewport render is a little fuzzy.

Let me know what you think so far!

Looking great! Geometry looks very easy to understand. That lamp is looking a bit small, however. Perhaps scaling it up would help?
