I'm looking to start a Capaldi build soon, and I've been back and forth on how the box was painted blue. It almost looks stained, but I imagine it must be paint. Does anyone have any insight on what technique was used to paint the box. Additionally, does anyone know the color paint used, and how to locate it? I've never had to source paint color before.

So from what i've been told, in the moffat era there was 4 (D,E,F,G (without conting C wich was in the eleventh hour as the tennant tardis)  props. 2 of them (D and E first paint job) where painted with a the 2000    -SYDNEY BLUE PRI 5A METALLIC/1996-LIBERTY BLUE PEARL 55A METALLIC"
The, half of season 6 and all the Capaldi era, the props were painted Xf8 flat blue.

Because were you're doing a relatively recent modern era box, where things more codified, I won't try to talk you out of finding the blue that was used.  But I will say that, particularly for classic series builds, getting the right blue is less important than you'd think--especially for a box that will be outdoors. Blue changes color very easily, depending on lighting.  I've had day that I hated how my box looked and days that I loved it--and it was the same paint.  There are pictures in my gallery thread that were taken on a partly cloudy day, literally minutes apart, where it looks completely different, depending on if I was taking a photo from the sunny or shady side and if there were clouds over the sun or not.

Also (and this is my personal opinion) if you're not doing a specific box, you can't pick too dark a shade of blue.  (Whoever painted the 2005 box may have proved me wrong but I digress.)  I've had times that I thought I got the perfect blue and when it was done, the box looked like a Smurf.  I've had times where I thought I'd made a horrible mistake and the box would be black but when I was done, if anything it was still too light a shade. 

In conclusion, good luck on your build.  It's much easier to get the "right" color for modern builds, but even if you can't, it won't be the end of the world.  Besides (at least if it's an outdoor box) you'll have to repaint it every few years anyway so you've got time to get it right.

Thank you for the help! This will be an outdoor box, so you may be right Volpone, I may not need to be too nitpicky. Just wanted to try to match the flat finish that Capaldi's box had without accidentally making it glossy, something I want to avoid.
